Epstein-Barr?!

Question: I went to my doctor today for a soar throat, swelling of the back of my throat and tiredness. He told me it wasnt strep but it might be mono or Epstein-Barr. I am just 13 and I can not miss any upcoming events in my life ex: graduation, vacation etc. My father had it when he was little. Do you think I have it and what should I do. I will have to repeat my grade if i miss too much school.

Some people dont get mono that badly. I had it and didn't even know until i was at the end of it's run.

The epstein-bar virus is a very common virus for children to get, most adults have already caught the epstein bar virus before they hit the young adult age. When children are infected with the virus you usually can't even tell, its usually a short one day head cold.

If you haven't already had the virus you run a chance of getting exposed to it as an adult and for some really weird reason, in young adults-adults it causes much more sevre symptoms.

Anyways, that's more than whatyou probably needed or wanted to know :) I just thought that was weird when my doc told me that.

feel better and good luck getting through the year. If you do have mono, you could probably work from home, and I would think your teachers would be cool with that, as mono can be a really serious little gold.

If your dr is right you probably miss quite a bit of school. Your parents can make arrangements for you to do your work at home so you wont have to repeat the grade. But it is contagious so you will probably miss grad. and the vacation may have to be rescheduled.

mono is epstein barr.. mono goes away on its own but you have to let it take its toll. the brunt of the virus is about 2 weeks the rest of the time you'll probably just feel sluggish for a while

Epstein-Barr is a peculiar virus. The severity is deferent with every person. Some people are very sick for a long time and some hardly know that they are sick at all.

As mentioned above for most people the worst part of the disease is over in a couple of weeks. So is should not effect graduation or vacation. If you get your home work sent home and do not feel to bad to do it then you should be able to keep up in school.
