Do I have a heart problem?!

Question: I have been sore throughout my body on-and-off the past few days. My legs hurt sometimes (my thighs), my back sometimes, my neck and jaw sometimes, my stomach sometimes and my arms sometimes.

I don't have any other symptoms. Somtimes I feel nauseated but not too often. I take levothyroixine for my hypothyroidism.

I went to the ER the other night and they took an EKG and chest x-ray and they apparently came back normal. They said that my heart rate for my EKG was high but that it was normal since I went in with the symptoms of an anxiety attack. Also, when I first went in, my blood pressure was high but has since gone back down to normal. The doc even listened to my heart and said that everything was fine.

Has anybody else had symptoms like this? What should I do? My father had cardiomyopathy and it freaks me out that I am getting it. Any advice helps!

You're not "too young" for a heart attack. Young people can have heart issues too. Though they are rare, just as the previous poster said.

Since they checked your EKG and everything seemed normal, chances are you are just fine. But if you want to rest your mind about it, I'd suggest going to see a Cardiologist for a full work up.

Your having thyroid issues can also affect your entire body and your heart. I would keep your Endocrinologist in the loop to what you're experiencing and they may be able to shed some light.

Overall, I wouldn't panic about anything though. It sounds like you are OK.

Well, not to differ with the doctor but people younger than you have had heart attacks. I have posted a site below with real life heart attack stories, some from young people, for you to compare your symptoms to. Many people think they are just experiencing "nausea" or just "tired" when in fact they are having a heart attack.

Get your heart scanned. Good luck.

Well, since you've been looked at by an ER, I suggest you call your endocrinologist ( or doctor that prescribed you levothyroixine) and tell them. Sounds like you might have gone from hypo to hyper......

Thyroid can cause all kinds of problems everywhere.

Keep in mind that yes younger adults and children to have cardiac emergencies, but they are far and few between. Anxiety attacks are far more common than what people think. I have had two in the last 15yrs and I can tell you from experience it truly felt like I was having a heart attack. I'm a Paramedic and dealing with people on a daily basis that have cardiac symptoms as well as people having anxiety symptoms, I was not able to even tell myself what was going on with me. Only after going to the ER and yes EKG and lab work was I sure I wasn't having a heart attack. Now keep in mind hypothyroidism will effect your heart rate as well as other things. Your blood pressure can also be effected by your heart rate, so make sure you take your medication and don't miss it. Don't stress yourself too much for that can even effect your heart and body functions. Try making a notebook of when your pains happen and what I mean by that is write down what you eat, drink, take(meds, o.t.c. also), smoke, etc. When, how much and then mark your pains and any symptoms when they happen and how long after any of the last things written down. Using this and some lab work your doctor should be able to help you figure out what and why your having these problems. It may take awhile, but it usually works! Check with your doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Sorry there is no such thing as too young to get a heart attack, what you might have is hypertension through stress ie worrying what you might have, see your GP again and explain what you are worrying about and listen carefully to what he says if he says you are OK and you are still sure ask for a referral letter to the local hospital, I have heart problems but my GP she is spot and I believe what she says Good Luck

Hey donot let him tell you that you are tool young to have a heart attack I am 17 and I have had a total of over 10 heart attacks and I was diagnosed with hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy when I was twelve my first heart attack was at 13. There are six year olds having heart attacks. I recommend you schedule and appointment with a cardiologist
