it looks cool
peer pressure
or they just want to experiment
I would never, or can't imagine myself smoking, to me it is disgusting.

I assume you are speaking of Tobacco. Ok that would be nicotine buzz which can relieve stress, aids weightloss, and It generates Massive amounts of taxes to help the government pay for all its nuclear goodies.
tobacco helps prevent Parkinson's and marijuana has anti cancer properties it also helps prevent Alzheimer's
not to mention smoking is very enjoyable
In some group it looks cool and in some group you can't get along without smoking but smoking is really bad, I prefer not to belong to a cool group than smoking.
