What is this on my baby? Can lymph nodes burst? This is wierd!?!

Question: My baby is 11 months old. Two days ago, I noticed a bump on the back of his neck the size of a quarter. It looked really big, compared to the little size of his head. On it, was dried puss-like stuff. I cleaned it off and he cried really bad. I was sad. :( So, he wasn't acting too bothered by it, he has had a runny nose for a few days, but overall, he was fine. So, I put him to bed, and this morning I woke up to find that it sort of burst open, I would assume, because it was flat and has more dried puss on it. But no loose skin around it, like you would expect if somthing has ruptured. It is now bright pinkish red, and cake-y, still the size of a quarter and looks awful. The only reason I suspected a lymph node, is because I searched and found alot of people asking about a swollen lump on the back of their baby's neck, and it turned out to be a swollen lymph node. He has been sick, as I said before. I was so out of the blue. And really wierd for him to all of a sudden have this bump.

Call the doctor. You can't be too careful these days with all the MRSA going around.

I'd say it sounds like it's time for a visit to his pediatrician

please call your doctor!that doesn't sound good...not to mention that your son is in pain.before it gets worse...take him to the doctor.hope ur son gets better soon!

I believe that you may have a condition called Hidradenitis Supprativa. It is re-occurring boils/ cysts/abscesses that are often misdiagnosed as ingrown hairs, herpes, being unclean or over weight and folliculitis. This is a newly diagnosed skin condition , but there is a lot of info out there if you are looking.
