Is this worth going to the doctor's for?!

Question: I done a glucose home check today and my blood glucose seems to be 8mmol/l..I had my breakfast at 12pm, toast and tea and didn't eat anything until 7pm, when I done the test. Is this worth hassling my Doctor about? I mean there's more important things than blood glucose being a little bit high. I do want to be on the safe side though.

Yes your damn well going to go to the doctor even if i have to fly over and drag you there myself. listen here, your in a great country and you can get good medical care. So you phone that doctor and make the appointment, and they will give you a test and remember to say that you have been going to the toilet a lot and drinkit loads. They unfortunately are the keys signs. And inshallah you have no problems. Its worth getting it checked anyhow flower. Awright??? Gonn yersell doon tae that docs. xx

Best to be safe go & see your doctor.Good luck

If you have not been diagnosed - Go to the Dr!

If you've been showing symptoms and the reading was 8 I would personally keep on testing and if you have another similar or worse reading then see the Dr - also get some dip sticks to check your urine for glucose.

i'm diabetic and i don't really think you've got anything to worry about. but because you have got a few symptoms maybe you should go along to the doctor just to get things checked out. good luck

Would a call to NHS 24 be worth making?

yes you need to see your family doctor this week.

All the symptons you have described are the symptoms of diabetes, but they can also be the symptoms of other things, if diabetes is in your family i would say get checked out, it wont hurt to go to your GP antway if it is not in your family and he will probably do a fasting glucose to put your mind at rest for you

up to 7 is considered perfectly normal so i would not bother your doctor today.
I would re-test again tomorrow and if it is still around that mark then book a GP visit to discuss it .

I would see the doctor. They don't mind you going to them if you think something is wrong and it turns out to be nothing. And also try not to self-diagnose this doesn't help.

DO NOT MESS ABOUT get your backside down to the doctors or go to the diabetes dept at your local hospital. Normal mol/l is in the region of 5.5. You obviously had reason to do a blood test so do not treat this situation lightly. If things turn out to be OK, so be it, if not, get treatment as organ damage can occur.

I don't know what your glucose levels should be. If you know that this is high, yes go to see your doctor. Be on the safe side.

It's best to be safe than sorry but i think you're fine. Test yourself first thing in the morning before breakfast and if it is below 4 then eat something and go to your GP. They usually worry if it is over 10mmols. The norm is between 4-7.

You have to go to the doctor. People go to the doctor for less things than diabetes, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Inshallah it isn't anything serious, but you still have to go to the doctor to make sure.

Very simply, a blood sugar of 8mmol/L is not normal. Whilst this in itself is not acutely dangerous, it would be worthwhile seeing your doctor. Diabetes often takes many years to diagnose, because in the early stages, there are seldom symptoms. In fact if your sugars are consistently around this level, then I very much doubt your symptoms are related. However, once again I would stress for you to see your doctor, as you need confirmatory tests, and subsequent management. In the meantime, check your sugars before breakfast, and 2 hours after a meal. A fasting sugar of 7 or more, or a 2 hour sugar greater than 11 would suggest diabetes.

Hi, go to the doctor! I am having the same problems so i know how u feel. Wish u luck!

Those results mean nothing since you did the test after eating. A test to diagnose diabetes should be done fasting.

So many answers and so varied..Lot of things said are correct and there is some myth here too. Depends what you even ate before that which you have recorded here, whether you have any infections at present etc etc. 8 is not high after eating. Are you overweight? Before you go to the doctor - take your results randomly over 5 days. No need to panic because at such levels all the doc will do for some weeks - is put you on a diet. You may be borderline - but I think you are ok.. Just watch it.

from the timings you have given..breakfast was a bit late..had you been drinking the night before? You may have bene hungry which means your liver was producing sugar to keep your energy levels up. I suggest you keep a better diet first and with the random testing - see what comes about. Lifestyle change would not go a miss I think.

Definitely get checked out. 8 mmol/l is slightly elevated, and it may just be that - elevated, but it's worth getting it checked particularly in light of the other symptoms. It may be that with some adjustment in diet you can bring it under control, but you must consult your doctor as soon as possible. If you leave it too long, things might progress to the point where control by diet and tablet is no longer an option.
