Is tetanus shot a part of childhood immunizations?!

Question: My 4 year old daughter stepped on a nail about 1/2 hour ago and I got to thinking maybe I should take her to get a tetanus shot, but I hate putting her through that if its not nessecary because she faints during the process every time... So basically I need to know if the tetanus shot is givin as a regular childhood immunization or if you just get it as needed... Thanks!

Yes, Tetanus is the T in the DTaP. Your child most likely received 3 of these as a baby at 2, 4, and 6 months. Refer to her shot records. Manufacturers claim that protection lasts about 10 years. Proper wound care has nearly negated the need for this vaccine. There are only a few cases of Tetanus reported in the US each year. Clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or some other type of antiseptic. Tetanus Immune Globulin (TIG) injection can be given within 72 hours if deemed necessary. You may want to read more about this at the website below. Good luck.

I don't think so. Call your doctor or hospital if you want to find out for sure.

I seem to remember that a tetanus is part of the vaccines as my son had his booster at 16. I cannot remember what age the first ones were given but your local nurse should be able to let you know.
If you put antiseptic on the wound though, I am sure your little girl will be fine.
If she does not like this, yo could put a little dettol into her bath water.

It is usually given as a routine immunization, but you should contact your doctor about this. He may want to see her, & he would have the records of her immunizations, & can tell you if she needs a booster...
