Here are the pros of smoking that I can think of:

1. you smell bad, so people leave you alone
2. you die young, so you don't have to worry about ending up in a nursing home
3. your destined to be poor, so you don't have to worry about the stock market
4. you pay lots of taxes so other people don't have to pay as much (which is nice of you)
5. you help maintain demand for cancer treatment centers that might otherwise go out of business

not a smoker myself, but it releives stress. i guess thats number 1.

Stress reliever

they can be relaxing, some even smoke because they get a scratchy voice, which i guess some girls like.

the only time I smoke is when I drink but other than that, I don't. It's not something I like. It just relaxes me..it's weird I know but thats why I do it.

I don't smoke, but my friends who do say it relaxes them and keeps off weight. Plus, I think there is a social aspect to it, a certain co-dependant camaraderie.

Pro: Helping to feed some tobacco farmer's family @ 5 bucks a day.

im a casual smoker
i do not think it looks good and its a digusting habit
but its great for releving stress and for making you happy

Well, it helps relieve stress.
It can elevate my mood when it does so.
The loss of stress can also help you think clearly.

If you don't already smoke, there is no PROS to smoking. Don't take up the habit. If you are a smoker, you are hooked so it just feeds the addiction and keeps you calm. Some people actually enjoy smoking - at least thats what they tell me.

I get breaks at work that my nonsmoking counterparts don't

5-15 minute break when you want....
lighting a cigarette gives you a few moments to think about things,.....

As an ex smoker I would also say stress relief...that's about it...unless you want to count yellow teeth, fingernails, bad breath, more wrinkles, higher risk of cancer, shortness of breath, etc. as pros. Seriously, I think stress relief is about the only pro.

LOL to Smarta$$...he should get the best answer for sure!

Not a smoker, but I'd think.
1. relieves stress
2. excuse to stand outside and talk to people you otherwise might not talk to
3. something to do
4. decreases one's appetite
5. looks/seems cool
6. apparently is great with coffee and after sex

Well, I just quit b/c I'm pregnant. But when I smoked I loved it b/c it relieved stress. But its kinda just a way to deal with it. Now I have better ways. I liked the feel of smoking like the feel of the smoke in my lungs. But I wouldn't say that those are pro's. I mean I guess the only good think is that when others smoke you don't mind. :) Now that I've quit I smell it everywhere b/c that may b/c I'm pregnant. I do miss stepping outside I guess I still could. But I used to get 2 15 min breaks b/c I smoked and the non smokers didn't get the breaks. So that was nice. Plus you meet alot of people at airports and such that normally you wouldn't meet. I met the love of my life b/c I decided to step outside and smoke a cigarrette.

1) as smoking is frowned upon most places, smoking allows the smoker to get a bit of space and have a break, go outside, get away.
2) when smoking, smoker takes in deeper, conscious breaths, like with relaxation (alas with smoky air) and this can have a relaxing, consciousness raising effect.
3) many people eat less and avoid weight gain, when smoking
4) it offers temporary alertness
5) it keeps away potential, unwanted non-smoking suitors

There are MANY pros of smoking. I don't smoke but research has suggested that smoking reduces risk for Parkinson's disease and reduces risk for receding gum lines, etc. go on this website.

I do smoke, but not a lot.

I mainly smoke to relax. Most of my cigarette consumption happens when I'm in the car leaving work, or going in to work. Driving is another relaxer for me, so it makes sense that they go hand in hand for me.

Also, I find that when I have a cigarette after having a few drinks, it intensifies my buzz.

I somke b/c it calms my nerves I started when I was 13 and now i am in my 20's. One reason I somek is bc I am adicted and it is hard to quit and I dont want to gain wait. What are the pros? There are none. The only pro is some time if i go smoke it will help me to keep from going off when I am mad!

My heart doctor ask me if cigarettes keep me calm and I answered YES he then told me to keep smoking because God gave me so many heart beats and then you die if you stay calm and keep your heart rate down when not in exertion then you live longer.

Sure it relieves my stress, and I will die much younger, I will have a hard time breathing, it makes me, my clothes, car, and home smell. What more could I ask for? Where is the down side???

If you are wondering, I'm NOT a smoker, but I have lost many wonderful family members to it.

There are no pros. smoking is a deadly habit. I quit 3 years ago and I feel so much better now than I used to. It only releives stress because you beleive it does. Cigarettes are killers. I've seen it too many times. COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the US. Cigarettes are the #1 cause of COPD. That is Fact.

Personally, I like the smell. There's nothing better than getting into your car, rolling up all the windows, and inhaling the wonderful aroma of the cigarette smoke around you.

There are NO PROS to smoking NONE Smoking is HORRIBLE (YES I smoke) I am 47 and have smoked since I was 15, wish to god I never had started! I smoke due to habit period, it is NOT sexy, and it makes your house, car , clothes and body REAK !

I started smoking in 1962 when a pack cost about $.40. I stopped in 2001 cold turkey, because I wanted to, and refused to pay for any more legal settlements from tobacco companies,
or additional state and federal taxes.

I quit because there were NO PROs.

I smelled, my clothes smelled, my car smelled, and I was tired of the restrictions and the cost. $4 a pack, or 20 cents per cig.

Regards,
Dan

There are no pros to smoking. It does not relieve stress. It actually speeds up your heart rate and system which does quite the opposite. It is a stimulant, like coffee.

People think smoking relaxes or relieves stress or does whatever else simply because they are addicted to the nicotine in the cigarettes. When you are addicted to smoking and are finally able to have a cigarette you get an "ahhh" feeling. Since it feels good to feed your addiction, you associate smoking with all sorts of positive things- relieving stress, relaxation, boredom buster etc.

The only pro to smoking was that it used to have some social benefits. That is not so anymore. People think smokers are gross and you can't smoke in lots of public places anymore.

The only PRO to smoking is that it puts LOTS of money into the pockets of the cigarette companies & their investors, & it generates a lot of income for the healthcare industry....I smoked for way too many years & way too many cigarettes, but I stopped on October 30, 1993...
