Cracked feet? I know it's gross, but....?!

Question: My poor feet are so cracked that it hurts to walk on them. I use a pumice on them in the shower. Now they are cracked so badly that you'd think I have tire tread on my feet. The balls of my feet crack and my heels are cracked and swollen. I can't think of possibly using a pumice now on them because they hurt so badly.

They are not bleeding at all, just split deeply. The actual crack hurts terribly all the time and the slightest touch is like a lightning bolt going through my body. The surrounding area of my heels are numb.

So...one, is this a symptom of diabetes? My kids are really bothering me to get to doctor to get a diabetes test.

Two, any home remedies out there to tend to my poor feet?

It would be a good thing for you to see a doctor.

I suspect that you have a fungus infection, causing the skin to crack. Fungus creams for athlete's foot like Neosporin are probably part of the answer, along with long term antifungal medication like Diflucan (fluconazole) tablets, 100 mg, once a day, for a minimum of 3 or 4 months.

Fluconazole generic tablets could be much cheaper than brand name Diflucan.

Finally, vaseline is always good to help the skin to heal. But there is a fungus infection to treat first. Also helpful would be to trash your sandals and/or shoes which carry the fungus. And wear socks from now on!

listen to ur kids......go to a doctor!!

well it wouldnt hurt to have your blood sugar checked, however it is not nessecarily a sign of diabetes. increased thirst, hunger, and urination are signs of diabetes. try vasiline on your feet. coat them in vasiline and put socks on and sleep that way. sounds awful if your like me and hate socks but it helps. your dry skin may also be caused from certain conditions like eczema.

Cracked heels are usually caused by your skin being super dry. Keep socks on at all times, put petroleum jelly (vaseline) on them, keep them moist all the time.
Stop wearing sandals, flip flops or open heel shoes. It also helps if you use Neosporin which helps heal your heels. Wow!

In the meanwhile, it sure doesn't hurt to have your blood tested as a part of a physical.

Over washing and scrubbing your feet with a pumice stone is not the answer. Go get checked for any ailment such as dermatitis, athletes foot, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy.... Could be one or a multitude of things. If all checks out stop scrubbing your feet like you hate them. Buy some cotton socks. Coat your feet with Bag-balm. Put on the cotton socks. Protect your sheets and blankets on the bed and sleep in the socks. Works.

dry socks even at bed, mostieriser, and aleve oitment
and get the blood test to boot.

My dad had this problem recently and he was given Lamisil pills for it. It was a certain type of athlete's foot. He said it was expensive but worth EVERY penny he paid for it. (he calls himself CB cheap bas***d)

I believe you can also buy Lamisil cream without a prescription... and that might help too but his feet were cleared up within 20 days of the of the first pill.

your not going to believe this one but it really does work. peel a ripe banana wipe the inside of the skin[the soggy bit] over the area and watch ,,,, just try it.... oh and listen to your kids go to the doctor, but try this 1st

I have the same problem with my heels. Put bandaids over where the crack is. This gives it a chance to heal and also prevents any infection.

Wear socks (you'll probably have to to keep the bandaids on anyway - not a place they like to stay) and proper shoes - closed shoes.

Let the cracks breath in bed - take bandaids off but keep socks on.

You should also put moisturiser on your feet.

My podiatrist recommended sorbelene (which is just a general body moisturiser.) You need to do this each night for the affected area.

If the problems with your feet are affecting your walking I'd recommend going to see a podiatrist(foot specialist) as well.

I don't know if it's a symptom of diabeties but if you think you may be at risk you should go to the doctor and get tested for diabeties.
