It's a tumour that is growing in the bowels, could be upper or lower. The surgeon will cut out the infected bowel and reconnect it. Then your aunt will have chemo to kill any possible remaining tumours. It is curable. I was diagnosed with it in 2005 and I'm still here. It's in my lungs now but I'm taking chemo again and doing fine. Don't give up hope.

If it is found early, it can be cured, simply by cutting out the diseased section of the bowel and re-attaching the rest. We have bowel to spare. Cancer is a tumour that grows in the bowel and eventually could block it.
a cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells in the body. they can occur anywhere. in the bowels, you can have colon, rectal, anal cancer...
cancers can be treated, yet treatment does not always lead to cure. cancers that are detected early can be easily cured.
my mother was diagnosed with bowel cancer, it had spread to her reproductive organs, had surgery, complete hysterectomy, portion of bowel removed, and had to have a colostomy, lived a normal happy life for the next 15yrs or so, and died of a heart attack, the cancer never recurred.
so in most cases, the outcome is pretty good.
