You know, and this is just my opinion, but there are very few side effects that are worse than the damage that smoking causes. I had a bi-lateral lung transplant nearly a year ago. COPD is a lousy way to die. A few months of crankiness is tolerable. Sounds like the change of life symptoms and this will just give your husband practice for the time when that comes. And menopause doesn't last just a couple of months. LOL

Possible side effects of Chantix :
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Constipation; gas; headache; increased appetite; nausea; stomach upset; strange dreams; taste changes; trouble sleeping; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); behavior changes; chest pain; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; memory loss; mental or mood changes (eg, agitation, depression); seizures; severe or persistent nausea; suicidal thoughts or actions; vision changes.

Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 (1-800-332-1088) or at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch.

newser3 makes a good point.

I heard people who have depression shouldn't take it.

- Before using Chantix, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, or a history of mental illness.
- Use this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
- Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.
- Take the medicine after eating.
- Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- Stop using this medication and call your doctor at once if you have any mood or behavior changes, or if you feel agitated, depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
- Less serious side effects may include:
nausea (may persist for several months);
stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting, constipation, gas;
weakness, tired feeling;
increased appetite;
unpleasant taste in your mouth;
headache; or
sleep problems (insomnia) or unusual dreams.
- This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any unusual or bothersome side effect.

Good luck

Suicide is a new side effect of Chantix.
