A cold sore is actually to do with a virus in your body that can come out at different times.
But lips that are dry and red and not always coldsores. It can be your lips just getting a bit chapped due to weather or other things.
when you immune system is weakened some way the virus surface...at some point in your life you were exposed to someone with the herpe simplex virus 1.... it lies dormant in your body until your immune system isnt working efficiently maybe due to an infection or cold..even allergies.. they then surfaces... thats why alot of people call them "cold sores" or "fever blisters" because they normally just surfaces during those times... you may not feel sick but something may be causing your immune system not to work properly... and like one person said it could just be a rash due to wind or cold weather... most cold sores appear on the tip and corners of the lips
