What does it mean when you have lead in your blood?!

Question: Please be honest, I have a friend that has a son that has worked around areas that caused lead in his blood. {High levels of lead in his blood} Can anyone tell me what this means and what can he do about it, and what can happen to him? Thanks to anyone who has tried to help in this matter. God bless.

Answers: Please be honest, I have a friend that has a son that has worked around areas that caused lead in his blood. {High levels of lead in his blood} Can anyone tell me what this means and what can he do about it, and what can happen to him? The following are excerpts from the pages shown as my sources.
"Adults exposed to lead can experience anemia, nervous system dysfunction, kidney problems, hypertension, decreased fertility, and increased level of miscarriages.

Workers can bring lead home from their workplace and expose their families. Approximately two to three percent of children with blood lead levels of 10 mcg/dL or greater were exposed by lead brought home from work. Children exposed to low levels of lead may exhibit symptoms of neurologic damage, including learning disabilities and short attention spans."

"Adults exposed to lead should have blood lead levels below 40 micrograms/dL. Treatment is recommended if the level exceeds 80 micrograms/dL.

In children, greater than 10 micrograms/dL of lead in the blood is abnormal. The source of lead must be identified and removed. Greater than 25 micrograms/dL of lead in a child's blood may indicate the need for treatment."

"Treating higher classes
For more severe cases, your doctor may recommend treatment called chelation therapy in addition to removal from lead exposure. In chelation therapy, the medicine (chelating agent) you take binds with the lead so that it's excreted in your urine. Doctors may treat some Class III cases and many Class IV cases with the oral drug succimer (dimercaptosuccinic acid).

Doctors treat lead levels greater than 45 mcg/dL of blood, which fall into Class IV or V, with a chemical called ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). EDTA is administered through injections in your veins (intravenously) and may be combined with the drug dimercaprol (BAL). Depending on your lead level, you may need more than one treatment. The therapy may not reverse damage that already has occurred in cases of severe lead intoxication.

Children with lead toxicity may also be iron deficient. Such children are usually tested for iron deficiency and treated with iron supplements, if needed."

depends really, lead can be highly poisonous, especially once within the bloodstream

however considering he worked around it constantly it is possible he slowly became immune to the toxins in lead and will suffer minimal damages

to be safe though, i'd ask a doctor

lead poisoning, doesn't sound nice at all.

lead poisoning its not good ay u can real sick and maby die sorry but its the truth go to the hospital ASAP

Lead is distributed to many tissues and organs in the body. Lead CAN NOT be destroyed, or changed to something else in the human body.
The amount in the body is described as the "BURDEN".
found in bones and blood, the lead moves with the body's functions the amount is very important.
To the brain, blood and kidneys must look at to find health effects produced from lead. How much lead is present?
1In organs
2How long lead has been there
Lead is a cumulative poison--kills over time.Needs a blood test to tell how much lead is present.
Lead is released threw urine and gastrointestinal tract.
Most occupationally workers exposed CAN NOT get rid of as much as they take in.
A very high level can cause, irritably, head aces, hallucinations &dullness, also COULD have convulsions paralysis and die IF lead level is 150 or more!!!
If lower than 70 will have slowed movements, some fatigue, and short term memory.
Lead interfers with kidney functions, its altering the metabolism of the kidney,
High exposure for long periods have been linked to high blood preassure, risks for miscarrage in women and males have abnormal sperm cells and lower sperm counts.

Adults and children can both be treated for high levels of lead in their blood. In adults, they can become quite anemic and depending on his work, that can be dangerous.

If he has any children at home, they are at HIGH risk for lead toxicity, which causes permanent brain damage. That's why in some states, all children are tested for lead at 1 year of age so we can intervene, and why the lead in toys has been such a big deal. However, lead in toys is nothing compared to possible work-exposure from a parent. Brain damage occurs primarily during ongoing brain development - which is why its not as bad for adults as it is for children.
