Often old fashioned Vaseline is the best thing to soften plaque psoriasis. I assume you have tried Dovonex and it has either failed or just stopped working. It is quite important not to get your skin 'hooked' on steroid creams or Dovobet, as this can produce both long term damage and 'rebound' flare up.

You can always turn to good old fashioned tar or dithranol. The problem is there aren't many old fashioned doctors left who are good at manipulating these older preparations, and they do have to used with skill and care.

Dithranol can only be used if the skin is not inflamed and the psoriasis is fairly quiescent. You need to start with very low percentage cream and go for short contact initially. I usually start at 30 minutes/day.

Tar is used in a similar way. These days pharmacists unfortunately no longer mix it up themselves. It thus takes a few days to get each batch made up and delivered to your local chemist. I usually ask for 1/2% CCT in diprobase as it is easier to apply. This is left on overnight and then showered off with the help of olive oil. Assuming that this does not burn the skin, I increase to 1% after about 2 weeks and so on.

If you are starting on one of these regimes it is a good idea to purchase a prescription pre-payment certificate to reduce your costs, you can then even get the olive oil on prescription!

perhaps she needs a stronger prescription, maybe a steroid cream if she isnt using one already.
why not see a dermotologist and get it checked out?

hiya
my partner has got it as well. He was prescribed dovonex cream and it works well on him.
In his case the psoriasis appears to vanish the more he gets to be under the sun. Being in england doesn't help v much with the sun tho lol.

I was prescribred DIPROSALIC ointment 0,05%w/w BETAMETHASONE (as dipropionate) 3%w/w SALICYLIC ACID for psoriasis.

Slow, but effective it is manufactured by Schering-Plough.

My son got it really bad when he was 10 yrs old. He looked like he had been scalded over 80% of his body. I did a home remedy regeim. Dry oatmeal and baking soda in a blender- add to bathwater daily and soak 20-30 min. Take a lrge jar of vaselene and add a bottle of camphophonique,stir- apply nightly and wrap up w/saran wrap+taped. I had to put socks on my sons hands cuz he scratched in his sleep. Took a couple of weeks to see results but it worked. He later used a steroid cream, but you have to be careful cuz it can damage organs over time. Tar based shampoos help- use all over like soap but avoid sunshine after. You can also use Desonex shampoo the same way. Cortozone cream may help the itching. Good luck I know it can be miserable.

My son has it extremely bad also, and he too has tried everything on the market and nothing was working. You could tell her to try the steroid treatment in either ointment or pill form from the doctor. I will tell you that it made my son very ill each time so he stopped doing either of those. He is now on a diet of foods and uses mineral oil to remove the silver patches. He is clearing up now with the mineral oil in bath, and putting on Vaseline Petroleum Jelly at night with white cotton pj's. I had it myself many years ago in youth and all through teen years severely. Back then they had a coal tar solution for bath and salve it worked very good but they no longer make that type. I wish i knew what i did to stop the outbreaks as it has now been 36 years. Let her also know that stress and nerves play a huge part in this as well as anytime she injures herself it can make it come back. Lastly, if she is the type that clears up in summer then have her go on vacation where there is alot of heat and sun as it works for my son.

coal tar soap helps so does dead sea salt you can put this in her bath. that can be bought at chemists,

Hello there. I found for my psoriasis the herbal cream and spray that cleared my plaques (elbows, knees and scalp) almost completely in just few weeks: it is available online from Champori.com Try it. They offer money back guarantee so if it doesn't work - it's free.
Best,
Bernadette

Every person reacts differently to an ointment - it's just a case of trying them out. Having had psoriasis since i was a kid, I have tried them all - even chinese herbal medicines! Lifestyle plays a part too. I'm unsure if your mum smokes or drinks but personally I find it got worse during my smoking phase(s) and after a night out drinking.
I use Diprosalic when I get a bad flare-up and then try and moisturise the area at other times.
