There's mixed data out there and old info mixed with new!. Back in the day they just gave Tylenol for ANY fever!. Now doctors are getting more conservative with it and only giving it for fevers over 101!.1!. You're right, the body creates the fever to kill off the germs - it's the body's natural response!. However, it knows no limit!. Once the temperature starts getting up to 101!.5 and above, it can start to create more harm than good by literally overcooking itself if it's let go for days!. Thus tylenol brings it down to a safe level!. The body will still work to kill off whatever is making it sick, fever or not!. That's the job of the white blood cells!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Low grade fevers are not too dangerous, but the higher they go, and the older the person, the greater the risk of dangers caused by the fever!. The assumption is also that if you are taking the Tylenol you are also treating the illness that caused the fever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't rush to use tylenol!.!.!.I only use it if I need to sleep and can't or if one of my kids needs to sleep!. The only other thing I'd be concerned about would be very high fevers and/or prolonged periods of time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

fevers dehydrate the body which in turn causes us to get sicker!. thats why people use tylenol or motrin to control a fever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NSAIDs like Tylenol act by reducing inflammatory responses, including those in your brain!. When the Tylenol reaches the hypothalamus, it reduces specific chemicals produced by the hypothalamus that cause a raise in body temperature!. A fever, when it reaches over 101, can cause long-term effects increasing in probablility as the temperature rises!. This is why worried mothers administer it to mildly feverish children!. They are probably not in any danger, but the immune response is lessened because of this, making the illness longer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
