Does anyone know anything about cellulitis?!

Question: Does anyone know anything about cellulitis!?
My husband took my 2 year old to the ER!. We thought he had pink eye, but it turned out to be cellulitis!. I'm not at the hospital so I don't know exactly what it is or how it happened or if its something serious!. All I know is that after his CT scan they determined they needed to admit him!. Any insight would help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cellulitis is a spreading infection of the superficial parts of skin!. It can sometimes be dangerous as it shows rapid spread and can involve other surrounding structures as well!. In your son's case as you told a ct was done its probable that the infection has spread in eye (intraorbital) infection!. It is curable but high doses of broad spectrum antibiotics have to be givenWww@Answer-Health@Com

My daughter got a cellulitis infection in October!. Hers was not serious enough to require hospitalization, but I heard that it can quickly become dangerous!. My daughter was 9 at the time, too-your son's young age and that it is on or around his eye might also play a part!.

They will put your son on antibiotics!. My daughter was sent home with an Rx for one!.

Cellulitis is basically a skin infection!. My daughter came to me on Friday evening with what looked like a "normal" mosquito bite!. We put a little bit of ointment on it because of her complaints, and really thought nothing else of it!.

The next day we went on a day trip to the zoo, and progressively throughout the day she would wince if someone or something brushed up against her shoulder (where the bug bite was)!. I gave her some medication for pain, and we put more antibiotic on it with the intention of taking her to the doctor first thing Monday morning!. Well, by Sunday the area was swollen, red, and hot to the touch so we called the pediatrician and he sent us to the children's ER!.

There was not a whole lot they could do with it-they gave her medication for pain and an antibiotic for the infection!. We had to put hot compresses on it and (gross) "mash" out the infection several times a day!. It was extremely painful for her without us pressing on it, and when we had to do it she would scream and plead for us to not!.

I hope he recovers quickly, poor little guy! Any cut in the skin could have led to it-as I said, hers started out by a mosquito bite!. Frequent hand washing! We sometimes forget, but it is important!. She scratched her bite, he probably was rubbing his eye!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a doctor and can tell you that once antibiotics are started, it can get worse before it gets better!. The admitted him, because of the need for IV antibiotics possible Ancef and clindamycin!. Take it day-by-day!. If the CT was negative, there's little to worry about!. Once the cellulitis starts to clear, antibiotics by mouth can be taken; maybe Keflex, doxycycline!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

its a bacterial infection, usually its treated by antibiotics but it can be tricky to get rid of when taking tablets, so they may well put a line in, so they can get the antibiotics into his bloodstream much quicker, also most likely admitted your son so that they can keep an eye on him, dont worry its very treatable and actually quite common, he will probably be home in a couple of days when the swelling goes down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most likely it is periorbital cellulitis!. This infection occurs when a bacteria infects the area under the skin and keeps spreading!. Often times it takes several different rounds of antibiotics to kill the infection!. My brother had this when he was younger and was also admitted to the hospital!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
