You're doing good!. It will take a little while to get on the right track!. With type 2 it's really important to watch your diet cause usually the only way to lower it is exercise!. Tip!.!.!.I know you said you carry hard candy, but you should also carry a granola bar or one of those little packs of peanut butter crackers!. Use the candy only if your blood sugar drops quickly!. If you can feel the change starting, eat the granola bar or crackers!. They will raise your blood sugar and keep it level longer!. Sugar tends to spike it and then fall again!. If my readings go into the 80's, I have low blood sugar!. Get the book South Beach Diet!. My nutritionist suggested it to me and I love it!. It is not an exhange diet, you don't count carbs or calories!. There are lists of food you can and cannot eat!. It will teach you about good and bad carbs and it is a healthy diet for diabetics!. It does not cause a rise in ketones like the atkins diet can!. You can get a paperback copy at Walmart for about $12!.00!. You may not be eating enough carbs, this is why you don't feel good sometimes, your going low!. Your normal reading may need to be a little higher for you!. Not all people's bodies are the same!. You have to learn what is right for your body!. Here is a list I got from a recent diabetic class!. This list is for those who are diabetic!.!.!.NOT non-diabetics

Fasting (morning readings)
110 excellent
140 acceptable
180 fair

2 hours after meals
140 excellent
180 acceptable
235 fair
These readings are for both types!.

No you are not eating enough of the right foods!. Try 5 small meals a day!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like your blood sugar is not level throughout the day!. Diabetics need to try to smooth out the blood sugar throughout the day to avoid getting weak and light-headed!.

There are new studies on the ideal type of foods a diabetic should eat at breakfast to keep blood sugar level for up to 10 hours!.

It is hard to answer these questions properly with out a dietary recall of the last 48 hours, and without proper Q and A!. I suggest, for your health and blood sugar control, that you look in your local paper for workshops or meetings that specifically target Type II diabetes!. Call your local hospital, ask your doctor, or do an internet search, for a listing of meetings that they offer!. Also, make sure you visit your dentist for regualr cleaning and that you don't have gingivitis or pther periodontal problems, as that is an infection and any infection can make your blood sugar hard to manage!. You are obviously very involved in managing your disease, and that is a very awesome step you have taken!. Good luck, and athough it can be time consuming at times, don't waver off all the great work you have done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Let your doctor know the results you are having as he may have to change insulin dosage IF he has put you on insulin!. Hopefully not!. If so he can help stabalize it!. You don't want your blood sugar level to get to low , as that is not good either!. You will begin to know the foods that raise and lower your blood sugar!. You can get books and information on the internet that help with types of foods that are best for you!. My husband has started taking a vinegar and honey cocktail hoping to help his Lymes disease, which is a old remedy that you will find on the internet!. He found it has regulated his blood sugar!. Hopefully your eating habits will control it!. I have low blood sugar so concerned about you getting to low as well!. Don't let that happen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should try Glucerna snack bars, shakes, and cereals!. They are formulated especially for diabetics, and help keep things even, because they don't make your blood suger spike and fall, which causes that crappy tired feeling!. They really help me alot! Your fasting readings should be between 80-100 and under 120 an hour after meals for the best control!. If you BG readings are falling low and making you feel yucky you can snack a little more, and don't foret that exercise makes your BG go down so if you walk aroud alot that may also be why you are experiencing what you are!. Good Luc I hop I helped!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Avoid sugar and high amounts of carbohydrates!. Eat balanced meals with whole grain (stays with you longer & turns into sugar slower) carbs at regular times!. Losing weight helps control diabetes!.
Granola bars are good snacks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It does take time for your body to get used to the new blood sugar levels and you will feel low for a while, even when you're not!. However, if you are testing 1 and 2 hours after meals and its still never above 120, then you are too low!. Try to test according to Jennifers recommendations!. I have a link to them on my blog, near the bottom!. See link below!.

Try adding some nuts to your diet, they're more filling and most are low carb!. Peanut butter, without any sugar added would also be a good addition to your diet!. High fat foods like nuts slow down the digestion of carbs, making you feel full longer and have less ups and downs!. It sort of evens things out!.

IF you are on insulin, you may have to cut it back a bit, ask your doctor or diabetes nurse for help with that!.

Also, you may only need to take the Metformin once a day instead of twice a day, especially if its the only med you are taking for the diabetes!. You might simply be getting a bit too much of it now that you are on a lower carb diet!. OR you might be able to increase your healthy carbs slightly to bring your blood sugar up to a better level and avoid going low!. This means have a whole grain bread, but a little more of it, or have a little more potatoes with your supper!. Just enough to get your numbers after supper up to about 130 or 135!. Higher than 140 is not good, that's when nerve damage starts!.

The key is to test frequently, so go to:
http://blog!.360!.yahoo!.com/blog-NbDgUzQhf!.!.!.
and look up the link to Jennifer's page - I've highlighted it in bright blue so you can find it quicker!.
