Question: My dad has had a sore throat for three weeks!. Help!!?
He's been to the doctor three times and he's going in to hosital tomorrow to get tests done!. I'm really worried!. Could it have anything to do with the big C (cancer)!? it especially hurts for him to swallow and he can only eat light food!. I'm just so worried!. What could be wrong and what can we do about it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are different conditions that can cause a sore throat to last a long time!.
Some causes are easily treated, some require antibiotics like bacterial infections like (strep, etc) and some cannot be treated at all like viruses (adenovirus, infuenza, etc) you just have to wait out the cause, although over-the-counter medicines can help relieve the pain!.
Make sure you have already checked the following,
Viruses that can cause a sore throat include:
Common cold viruses
Influenza
Mononucleosis
Measles
Chickenpox
Croup
Bacteria that can cause a sore throat include:
Strep throat
Tonsillitis
Diphtheria
Mycoplasma
Chlamydophila
Gonorrhea
Other causes:
Allergies, Pollution and other irritants, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux), HIV infection (as secondary infection), Tumors (if you smoke or abuse alcohol you are in high risk of tumors in the throat, tongue, or voice box)!.
A lots of testing are required before considering a Cancer, check with the doctor!.
Driking a lots of water helps meantime!!!
