Asthmatics - Is it possible to overdose on Ventolin?!

Question: Asthmatics - Is it possible to overdose on Ventolin!?
I have asthma and sometimes have attacks where a regular dose of Ventolin isn't enough!. Just now I've had 6 puffs and I'm still having some trouble breathing!. I've phoned the doctor before on occasions like this and he's said it's fine to just keep taking the ventolin even though it makes me feel shakey and horrible when I have that much and the leaflet says to take no more than 8 puffs a day!. !. I've just googled it however and found out you can overdose on it - my doctor said this was nearly impossible!. Does anybody know anything further about this!? How many puffs would you take before calling a doctor!? My breathing has improved, just is still difficult!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had this before - when my asthma kicked in really bad I'd be taking Ventolin every hour or so and it'd make me very shaky and yuck!. I started taking Advair every day and that helped a lot - I haven't needed a Ventolin inhaler for a couple of years now!.

This is just my guess as someone with asthma, based on my experience and thoughts!. You probably can overdose on Ventolin (you can overdose on water!) but I think you'd feel horrible and stop before you actually did any permanent damage!. But if it was me, I'd go to the doctor on Monday morning and ask for something to get the asthma under control!. I take Advair, but there are other things!.

I've taken a lot of puffs when the Ventolin just didn't seem to be working - enough to feel awful and jittery - but once I found a doctor who got me on a longterm anti-inflammatory program, I found that I didn't need to use the Ventolin at all, and it was so much better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you can overdose on ventolin or any other medication intended for asthma!. if , after you have exceeded the recommended dose, do not take any more!. be on your way to an emergncy room!.this may not be the correct medicine!. you may have to change your medicine!. i hope you get better!. maybe i've helped!. thanks, susieWww@Answer-Health@Com

i have asthma too anduse ventolin as well!.i was told to take two puffs every 4 hours and breathe deeply to increase the lungs capacity!.it works for me!.i also use robitussin cough syrup to calm the cough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think the correct term is "overdose"!. There can be a certain point at which Ventolin may become ineffective!. You may also experience uncomfortable side effects, as is common with most drugs!. At this point, you are not managing your asthma effectively (in the big picture)!. Other measures/medications may be required, such as daily steroid inhalers!. If the immediate situation is acute, you may need to go to the emergency room for a shot of adrenaline ( or whatever they provide these days)!. This may also make you shaky, but it will solve the problem!. It sounds like your situation is acute right now!. Can you remove yourself from an environment that is irritating your asthma!? If your inhaler is simply not working at all, you need to go to the emergency room, regardless of what your doctor says!. It depends on how desperate and frightened you feel!. Do what you have to do right now to take care of yourself!. In the future, have a better plan in place to manage or asthma!. Educate yourself and don't let this happen again!. I have had asthma for years!. The key for me is avoiding the triggers, and knowing how to use preventative measures!. If I know I'm going to be around something that triggers my asthma, I will be prepared with an arsenal of whatever medications I need!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your doctor is a moron!. Find a different one!. The reason you feel shaky is Albuterol is what is known as a Beta Agonist!. What that means is that it can make your heart rate and your blood pressure increase!. To much Albuterol can make your heart rate become dangerously high!. In addition, you can develop a tolerance to Albuterol which will force you to take more to get the desired effects!. You really need to get on some controller medications such as Advair!. This is a drug that you take twice a day in addition to your rescue inhalor!. It contains two drugs which help control airway inflammation over the long term!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
