Sindy,

A lot of people contract HSV-1 when they're young from relatives who unwittingly pass on the virus when kissing socially (greeting or departing, that kind of thing)!. The virus can stay dormant in your body for extended periods (months or years) and indeed many people who carry the herpes simplex virus do so asymptomatically on a permanent basis, i!.e!. they will never display any outward symptoms, although they can still pass it on!. If you do have symptoms, they may be brought on by a period of stress or a temporary immune system dip, e!.g!. after a night of heavy drinking or a period of eating poorly!. In other words, you've run yourself down and the virus may be able to take advantage by briefly breaking out on the surface of your skin!.

I wouldn't worry!. The majority of people carry some form of the virus by the time they're an adult (75-85%)!. The major difference between people who have coldsores and those who don't isn't that the former group have been afflicted somehow, or brought it on themselves through carelessness or stupidity!. Rather, most people have it, but only some express it by having symptoms!. It is mainly down to the luck of genetics!. Very few people manage to get through life having no exposure to the herpes virus in some form!. It is an almost unavoidable passenger in life!.

Oh, and one silver lining to what you're seeing as a cloud: HSV-1 exposure seems to confer better immunity against HSV-2 (you can still get it, but it becomes less likely), which is the most common cause of genital herpes!. And believe me, HSV-2 would affect you much more than HSV-1!. Oral cold sores tend to be very infrequent for most people and are little more than an occasional nuisance!.

One of the posters above says that you can "get herpes" from too much sun etc!. This is somewhat misleading!. You cannot acquire the virus from the sun (that would be pretty scary)!. Rather, if you are already carrying the virus (perhaps unknowingly) certain stimulii appear to act as triggers that can increase the likelihood of an outbreak!. UV radiation appears to be one such trigger; certain kinds of foods may also be triggers (e!.g!. nuts) although to be honest most of this causality is still poorly understood!.

To reiterate: "How could I possibly have gotten it!?" Most people your age already have it, Sindy!. (It's just that the majority of them don't realise it!.) And you may well have had it since you were a young child, through no fault of your own!. Millions of kids will already carry it by your age!.

Best wishes,

yes you can get herpes from too much sun, being sick, antibiotics, and super hot drinks can cause oral herpes, yes you can kiss a guy just be aware of when you feel you have an outbreak coming or if you have one already just be responsible, and you may never get another one again!. Keep your immune system up and take some vitamins and eat healthy and get enough sleep!.
don't worry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, you can not catch oral herpes from the sun!. You catch it from kissing people (through skin-to-skin contact) and it is incredibly common!.

By the time people are teenages, roughly 50% have oral herpes!. Most people it in childhood from kissing relatives!. And by the time people turn 50, there is an 80% chance that they have oral herpes!.

I do so hope for you that your mother (and aunts and uncles and grandparents) kissed you when you were a baby!. (Its what grown-up do when they love a child!.) And if you were, then somewhere along the line you must have caught herpes!.

I'm so sorry that you are distressed about this!. But I do understand - I have genital herpes myself!. Truly, oral herpes is quite common!. Anyone who has had a cold sore probably has oral herpes - and that is a LOT of people!.

If you want more information on oral herpes, check out the website below!. It will have lots of reliable information (unlike Yahoo!Answers, much of the time) and perhaps may ease your mind!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In fact, many people get herpes without any awareness!. You can get herpes in many ways!. My friend at the std social & dating site called pozcupid !.com has the same problem with you!. She has blog there!. You may ask her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Being in the sun (including tanning beds) and stress are the TWO BIGGEST TRIGGERS of herpes!.
Meaning if you are in the sun too much - or stress out - you will get cold sores on your mouth

Sun did not CAUSE it - but it does trigger herpes to come out!.!.!. You likely caught it from an ignorant family member (aunts, grammas) who kissed you when you were a tiny baby - and they didn't realize cold sores are herpes!.!.!. It's sad that some people can be SO IGNORANT!
It's not the end of the world!.!.!.If you don't have cold sores or that tingling feeling that tells you a cold sore is coming - you are not contagious!.!.!.
I'm glad YOU know what it is and you will not spread it to others
Taking L-Lysine with your other vitamins (it's in the vitamin aisle at Walmart!.!.and it's VERY cheap) will help keep it awayWww@Answer-Health@Com
