no , they are two entirely different diseases with differing causes and effects!. i know of three people (2 in their 80's)who have had diverticulitis for over 25 yrs!. 2 of the 3 have had bowel sections!. there is not and has ever been a cancer cell in sight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diverticulitis is an inflammation/infection that occur in the a diverticulum!. The commonest cause of diverticulum(singular)/diverticulae(plur!.!.!. formation in the colon of an elderly people is due to the degenerative ageing process!. That part of the muscle wall become weak and they balloon out especially with constipation due to excessive pressure during bowel motion!.
These diverticulae form pockets or blind pouches on the wall of the colon!. Sometimes feces which contain germs got stuck inside them and cause infection(diverticulitis)!.

Colon cancer (the most common ones>90%) occur in the innermost cell lining of the colon called mucosa!. Cancer occur when there are changes in the cell of the mucosa due to genetic alteration!.

The processes of diverticulitis and cancer formation are completely different and hence they are not related whatsoever!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
