Question: Could what happened in the movie I AM LEGEND happen to us!?
I was just curious!. I watched that movie finally over the weekend!. The whole virus erupted from the Measles virus being used to cure cancer and they got something worse!
Do you think that something similar could happen in real life!? Not necessarily people turning into those zombie things that they did, but something used to treat a disease has a reverse effect and kills millions!?

I think something like that really could happen in real life!. The human population has suffered severe epidemics over time, some pretty recently, such as the black plague that wiped out 1/3 of the population in Europe!. It is ignorant on our part to think that something like that cannot happen again!. We think that we are so invincible now!. However, there are viruses out there for which we have no cure!. Mutations happen!. Bacteria mutate and are showing resistance to antibiotics (look at MRSA)!. Humans are so mobile now that no populations are protected, which is why we still have to vaccinate against diseases such as measles!. We do lots of research to prevent these things from happening, but history shows that drug companies and the government change their positions on things all the time!. They reach conclusions that turn out to be wrong all the time!. It is scary, although I try not to think about it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well i guess it is possible to accidently create something that could harm people!. but, i don't think they would release anything as a vaccine without testing to make sure it doesn't have negative effects over time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I don't see why such a problem couldn't occur through human error!. Most likely, government agencies would put in far too many preventative measures to allow any poor research to go overlooked!. The FDA would regulate any kind of medication, but I suppose there's always room for human error!.

It could definately happen!. As someone working in a research capacity, I know that our precautions are darn good!. I myself cannot find a fault in our methods for verifying that such a thing doesn't happen!. I am, however, human!. Humans make mistakes!. I pray that such a thing never happens but cannot guarantee that it will not!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I think something like that is bound to happen sooner or later!. Humans are trying to alter nature so much that its almost inebitable for something like that to happen!. with all the cure for cancer aids so on!.

I think that what happened in the movie was a huge stretch of the imagination!. In the movie, apparently the virus mutated from being transmitted through fluids, to being transmitted airborne!. Not a very likely scenario!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I think it could most definitely happen!. To rule it out would be ignorant!. Drug companies are in the game to make huge profits and can you imagine the cost of a cancer cure to a patient!? They will not spend enough money on testing the drugs because it cuts into their profits!. They would literally have to test large cross sections of every race with every possible combination of chromosomes to call their drug safe for ALL of humanity!.
