Very Important: Keep extra toothbrushes!. Change after every cold/sore flare up!. And frequently after the flare-ups diminish!. When your dd uses the lip balms have her apply them with her finger and then germ-x her hands a q tip also works!. I keep small portable bottles and baby wipes on me all the time!. Remind her not to share drinks, lip balms, or dips with other kids since any germ or food residue they have may cause her a break out!.

The virus that causes cold sores/fever blisters and canker sores is basically the same one--where it comes out is how it will come out!. Lips--cold sore/fever blister!. Inside mouth--canker sore!. Once you have it, you have it for life!. They are highly contagious and spread easily!. Don't touch!.

Most people (like 90some%) carry the virus and you can get it from sharing a straw, utensil, a simple kiss, and some medications!. Most people don't have a problem with reoccurances so they tend to think they are virus free (only 10% if that are right)!. I don't get them, but I did have them now and again as a child (the canker sores mainly when I would go to sleep with my hair damp or wet)!.

Some people are more sensitive to reoccurrances!. My Dh, toddler and your dd!. Treating them is actually easy!. I offer some medicinal treatments below, but if your dd is like my dd or dh, you may have to go a BIG step further!. And, stopping or limiting reoccurrances is a daunting task!.

Orange juice is really acidic--it leaves burn marks on my 4 year old!. And she gets fever blisters!. You are right on this one!. (Also, add pineapple, grapefruit, lemonade, tomato juices)

To this add:
1!. Cinnamon------anything with cinnamon is bad for causing flare-ups of cold sores!. 2!. Wind burn
3!. The sun and heat
4!. Peppers---bell, chile etc might also be culprits!.
5!. Anything that says Spices

I imagine regular tomatos to be acidic as well!. (We don't use tomatos or other night shades in ANY form in my house--we're arthritc!.)

Anything containing Arginine would be flare-up causing: things like corn/corn products, chocolate, barley, peanuts, red meat, (You might want to google Arginine and find out more and do an elimination diet for your dd and figure out her sensitivity levels!.)

The vitamin lysine is helpful in preventing them!. My dh takes it and his cold sores have diminished drastically!. Of course he also stays away from certain foods as much as he can!. (The last time he had a drink w/cinnamon he didn't get a sore--I think it is because he no longer has the toxic build up he had before I eliminated all this stuff)!. Eating too much cereal and baked goods is a lysine eliminator!.

Nicotine products cause flare-ups!. I'm not assuming your 8 year old is a tobacco chewer or smoker, but it does apply to her since potatos have natural levels of nicotine!. Think french fries, baked potatos etc!. Oh yeah, tomatos have nicotine too!. Of course the levels are small, but if you are eating hash browns for breakfast, french fries with ketchup for lunch, followed by mashed potatos for dinner,!.!.!.it all adds up day after day!. We don't eat any kind of potatos anymore either!. Oh yeah, school lunches are the worst, so you may have her pack a lunch for a while as well!.

Frustrated!? It can be!. My reccommendation is this!. Put your dd on an elimination diet!. Take her off everything I mentioned plus anything you find when you do that "googling" on arginine!. Try to find natural sources of lysine (eggs and parmesan cheese are two) to see if you can bypass the vitamin supplement!. (I'm all for keeping children as natural as possible!.)

Give Her milk, apple juice, apple/raspberry, water, herbal tea (Pure chamomile flower, and peppermint only--Celestial Seaonings is a good brand) Sweeten the teas with local honey!.

Substitute parsnips and carrots and sweet potatos for regular potatoes!. My girls love orange french fries!. Have her eat a lot of whole straight from nature foods, especially the greens and oranges!.

Substitute regular natural brown rice for any rice you may use when you can and limit pasta intake (I use olive oil with all my pastas when I make them)!. Also, I've noticed that my dds don't get bored with rice when I use different types (wild, brown, risotto, arborio--some are white and it's ok--it is better to have a variety!.)

My toddler has polyarticular arthritis in addition to the fever blister flare-ups so I really have to watch her diet!. When we stay home and eat at home we don't have a problem!. Eating out can be a chore!.

Most of our meals are vegetable, poultry (turkey or chicken), legume and grain based!. We don't use pork or beef either!. There are plenty of tukey and chicken products from deli meats to tukey hamburger so the variety is there!. Vegetables that are especially good and the kids like are squash, broccoli, cauliflower, pan-fried white onion rings without the batter!.

My kids have always prefered natural foods as do I!. If you have to buy cereals stick to things like multi-grain cheerios, or another Cheerio product!. They have fruity and frosted ones now!. Or Chex!. As far as bread is concerned stick to multigrain breads and steer away from the white breads!. Snacks should be things like Fruits, nuts (not peanuts), cheese, veggies!.

It can get pretty expensive to eat natural foods, and it takes a few minutes more to make a nice meal!. Also, everyone has to get used to different tastes, but it is really worth it!. At first it was a hard thing to do!. I spent many hours doing research for the fever blisters and the arthritis, but again it is so worth it!.

Other Remedies:

There is a lipstick tube of vitamin E that I have my toddler wear in the wind and sun and it was helpful!. Carmex is helpful too!. I imagine Burts Bees Honey chapstick might work well as well!. It is all natural!. There are some Burts Bees Lipsticks that work better than regular lipsticks and your dd might get a kick out of the colors!. (You might too as they taste good and don't wear off too easily!.)

Dabbing milk at the site at the first "tingle" is supposed to work!.

Medicines: Prescription acyclovir is one--my toddler got put on this and it worked alright, and the tube lasts a while!.

Over the counter you can try Abreva (didn't work with us, but everyone is different)!.

Orajel Mouth Sore Medication (this works really well for my toddler and since it is for all mouth sores it works for the cankers and the fever/cold blisters!.) Orajel has several different types that may work better for you!.

My husband swears by Neosporin lip medication (before this came out on the market he tried regular neosporin and a Walmart Generic Antibactiral Ointment and they worked as well!. He feels better using the Lip Version though and I would use that on a Kid just to be on the "safe" side!.)

Again, I think reviewing her diet would be the most useful, even if at first it seems daunting!. I think a diet that is varied is the best way to go!. Some "culprits" may be tolerable in small doses and once your dd's toxic build up has gone down she may be able to have the occassional culprit!.

Good luck!. I really hope your precious daughter can get to where she forgets what cold sores are!. My dh and dd are pretty much there (we do eat out on occassion and sometimes forget that lip balm) and it is a great pleasure to my heart!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's an allery to something!. take her to the doctors for a allergy skin test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Good evening mam, (I am in Indonesia)
First of all, I am not a doctor so my explanation probably won't be medical!.

But I provide alternative suggestion regarding health to the other!. I believe that environment plays a major role in our health!. Here is an advice from me, do some research about food to prevent and cure diseases!. I know a little about bees product to prevent illness and witnessing some of them getting cured also!. Pollen, propolis (anti-oxidant), royale jelly, and honey is a great combination to regenerate our cells!.

Cure is of course come from God, but probably there is something with this products that God has provided to help us!. I have dealed with diabetic, sinus, typhoid, Dengue-fever, and stroke!. But yes I have never dealt with herpies!. But I wish this could help

I have 2 sites for you to start,
both are not my sites!.

If I correctly understand what you are calling a fever blister, then those are most usually caused by a herpes simplex 1 viral infection!. There's no need to panic or get upset about it, most of the human race is infected with it!. It doesn't implicate you or suggest anything improper has ever gone on!. Just that at some point, somebody shedding the virus shared it with your daughter!. You don't have to have an open blister to do that either, although that is the easiest time to spread it!. Some people actually have the virus, but their immune systems are able to supress it most of the time, so they don't suffer the blister outbreaks!. Some folks are not as fortunate!. Your daughter is young, which means she has a sort of learner immune system and a lot of demands going on inside her growing body!. Her immune system simply isn't as good at supressing it yet, which is why she tends to have them break out more often!. Although they are called fever blisters, they really aren't related to a fever at all!. But being sick can give the little booger of a virus an opportunity to make trouble, which is why an illness can often result in a blister on the lipline or lips!. Acidity in the orange juice can aggrivate matters, but of itself doesn't cause an outbreak to occur!. There are other things just as acidic actually, things like tomato products and even soft drinks, or other juices can be equally acidic!. We just notice it more in oj!. Either way, it's not what she eats!. Fatigue, sunlight and stress can all trigger an outbreak!. And as I said, some folks just seem more plagued than others!. If you really think it's a problem, the pediatrician can give you a prescription for an anti-viral that will help limit the outbreak some!. But with a child, that may not always be advisable!. Hopefully as she matures and her immune system gains strength and experience, it will naturally be better at supressing the virus and she will experience less frequent outbreaks!. Meantime, as aggrivating as it is, and I know as a mom myself- how distressing it can be for you both, it's not something to get upset about or to worry yourselves much over!. Just keep the remedies on hand to ease the misery, and ask the pediatrician for a recommendation otherwise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
