Why are lungs highly vascularized ? in a fetal pig.?!

Question: Why are lungs highly vascularized !? in a fetal pig!.!?
Answers:
The answer is the same in any animal, even the human ones!. Think about what the function of the lungs are!. They are to take in oxygen and transport it across the alveolar membranes to the capillaries so that the red blood cells can carry it to the rest of the body and conversely eliminate CO2!. For each and every microscopic alveoli there is exactly one capillary running right up against it to facilitate that transfer!. There are litterally hundreds of thousands of alveoli in the lungs and all with their associated blood vessels!. It's all so that you can have oxygen intake and CO2 elimination in an efficient manner which is conducive to life as we know it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Think about it! What is the function of the lungs!? What takes place in the lungs!? Why would you need increased vascularization to the lungs!? Why would 1/2 the heart be devoted to the blood flow to the lungs!? I know this is a school question, so I want to lead you to the answer, not give it to you!. Follow the logic, and the answer will come!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
