Low Hemoglobin but no fatigue....invalid result???!

Question: Low Hemoglobin but no fatigue!.!.!.!.invalid result!?!?!?
I brought my 4 year old to the doctor today for a well check!. They did a finger-prick blood test to do a lead screening and check his hemoglobin!. The hemoglobin came back very low (8!.3 and doc said it should be around 12)!. However, he said the finger-prick isn't very accurate and he is almost positive it was a invalid result!. He ordered a full blood test that I took him to this afternoon and will get results tomorrow!.!.!.but that doesn't stop my worrying!.

My doctor, the nurse doing the full blood test and myself all think that if it was a true reading my son would be very fatigued and lethargic!.!.!.but that is not the case!. He is a very energetic kid!.!.!.even after the blood test today we went to the park where he ran and played for 1!.5 hours!.!.!.then went to McDonalds and he played there!.!.!.we are now home and he is still going!.!.!.I never see him ever get tired!.

They also both said the finger-prick isn't very good for testing blood counts!.

So, I'm still worried and just wanted to hear what others think!. Do you think because of his activity level the test was probably invalid and the full blood test will show a more normal result!? I guess what I want to know is can your hemoglobin ever be that low without also having the fatigue and tiredness that usually goes with it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
you're intelligent, you already know the answer!. you spend enough time (i can tell, easily) to know if something is wrong!.

the answer is NO, hemoglobin carries oxygen to the cells in your body!. without glucose (carbohydrate) and oxygen your cells will die!. so when the hemoglobin count falls oxygen to the cells is reduced!. so the body compensates by increasing heart rate and breathing rate (in an attempt to saturate the blood with oxygen) and begins to shut down non-essential body parts!. he would have bad skin color be sleepy and not able to catch his breath!. sleep well :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
