Question: Does anyone think burning coal is bad for your health!?
My mom, who has never smoked before, or never been exposed to second hand smoking has lung cancer!. Or is there some other health issues that could happen for burning this stuff!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Coal Smoke is indeed bad for lungs!! Smoking or not, a lot of people have the gene for developing lung cancer!. Cigarettes and second hand smoke do not cause it!. They merely exacerbate it as does coal smoke!.
The other thing is, most old fireplaces or stoves had asbestos around them!. This is also not good for those with the gene for lung cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Breathing in coal dust (or smoke from burning coal) if she does it a lot - sure!. Many coal miners died from lung cancer!.
Same as if you had a wood stove!.
And sometimes, in rare cases, you can get lung cancer without any of the above!. Comedian Andy Kaufman died (I think in his 30s) from lung cancer even though he was never known to smoke!. Because he staged extreme practical jokes, and never smoked, friends assumed it was an act, but he did die and hasn't resurfaced in some 30 years, so I think it's safe to assume he had lung cancer (fatal) and got it even though he didn't smoke!.

It produces carbon monoxide, so yes!. There have been thousands of cases where coal miners died of lung cancer!.

inhaling any smoke or waste product from something, anything, that is burned will be bad for you!. Coal miners get copd, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, all sorts of nasty stuff from coal but that is from breathing in the coal itself!. Coal smoke has a lot of carcinogens in it and carcinogens are what cause cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
