Does anyone else with Celiac Disease have trouble with skin problems (similar to eczema)!? I know that there is a skin condition that often comes with Celiac Disease, but not sure if it is similar or related to Celiac Disease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Skin disorders are commonly seen in celiac disease, especially dermatitis herpetiformis!. It tends to be VERY itchy, fluid filled, raised, and found on the face, neck, trunk, elbows, knees, and buttocks especially!. When the blister breaks, patients often report great relief!.

A gluten free diet has been researched and shown to improve the associated skin conditions!. But it can take weeks before you notice it!. Dapsone has been prescribed in the meantime for relief!.

This may be dermatitis herpetiformis, another skin condition precipitated from the celiac, or not related to the celiac disease at all!. As a routine disclaimer, the best answer with a diagnosis and full array of treatment options can be obtained by visiting a medical professional with significant experience in this field, particularly a gastroenterologist and/or a dermatologist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are thinking of dermititis herpetiformis!. It is either another expression of celiac disease or a separate entity!. Either way, cutting out gluten will cause it to go away!. The diagnosis for it is done with blood tests and a skin biopsy done near the site of the breakout!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
