Answers:
This is the fluid that surrounds the spinal cord!. It supplies nutrients and oxygen to the cord and helps to remove waste products!.It is an approximately isotonic solution and acts as a "cushion" or buffer for the cortex, providing also a basic mechanical and immunological protection to the brain inside the skull!. It contains about 3% plasma proteins!.
You cannot damage the spinal fluid!. You can however damage the spinal cord in an accident, the fluid can be spilt leading to decompression of the brain!. About 500 ml of the fluid is produced by the brain per day and drains into the blood!. When it does not drain properly, it can lead to raised intra cranial pressure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It bathes the brain and acts like a shock absorber and cushion for the brain and spinal cord!. It is mostly water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Damage isn't necessarily to the fluid, too much spinal fluid and you have hydrocephalus, not enough and you can damage the brain!. You can detect different conditions by testing for blood cells, and bacteria!. Severe head injuries and traumatic injuries to the spine can cause you to lose/leak spinal fluid!. Years ago when head trauma victims came to the ER with severe nose bleeds, some of the blood was dripped on to a coffee filter, if it left a clear/pinkish halo then there was spinal fluid mixed in with the blood!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

spinal fluid can be used for several things!. detect illnesses, detect drugs and those same things can bedamaging!. pregnant wemon can also have the fluid drawn to tell them about there babys!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
