Is bronchitus contagious?!

Question: Is bronchitus contagious!?
My sister was recently very ill with bronchitus, before she was diagnosed by the doctor my son and I were with her (at this point she just had flu like symptoms)!. My son had a fever over the weekend and has developed a chesty cough now!. The doctor said it was a virus infection, but this is what they first told my sister too!. Should I be worried that he may have caught it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No, bronchitis is not contagious!. Colds and flu yes, but not bronchitis!. Bronchitis is inflamation of the bronchial tubes!.

So you could develop this after a bad cold or flu!.

further info:

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the main air passages (bronchi) to your lungs!. It causes a cough, shortness of breath and chest tightness!. Coughing often brings up yellow or greenish mucus!. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic!.

Acute bronchitis is often caused by the same viruses that cause colds!. It usually starts as a sore throat, runny nose or sinus infection, then spreads to your airways!. It can cause a lingering dry cough, but it usually goes away on its own!.

Chronic bronchitis is one type of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)!. The inflamed bronchi produce a lot of mucus!. This leads to cough and difficulty getting air in and out of the lungs!. Cigarette smoking is the most common cause!. Breathing in other fumes and dusts over a long period of time may also cause chronic bronchitis!. Treatment will help your symptoms, but chronic bronchitis is a long-term condition that keeps coming back or never goes away completely!.

It depends what is causing the bronchitis!. It is inflammation of the bronchia i!.e!. the air passageways to the lungs!. If this is caused by a virus or bacteria as you suggest, then like all infections, it is contagious!. I would suggest you followed your doctor's advice and take your son in again if his condition does not improve!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
