Question: Question for asthma suffers who use Albuterol!.!.!?
I have seasonal asthma and have been using an Albuterol inhaler for the past year and a half!. I understand that Albuterol is a steroid that your body can become accustomed to if you use it often enough!. I was wondering if any of you have ever experienced any side effects while using Albuterol!? Mood swings!? Stomach upsets!? Weight loss/gain, etc!. Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Albuterol is NOT an inhaled corticosteroid!. It is a type of beta-agonist!. In the airways, beta-agonists bind to specific receptors to cause airways relaxation and bronchodilation!. However, because some of it absorbed via the lungs into the circulation, it can bind to receptors in the heart, brain, and other organs!. These may result in unpleasant side effects, including rapid heart beat, anxiety, dry mouth, GI upset, and more!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Dr!. C is right!. Also, if you get very anxious &/or tachycardic (heart races) ask your dr!. if you could try Xopenex inhaler!. In general terms, Xopenex is Albuterol except the part of it that causes the tachycardia is removed!. It's effects in the lung are the same!. I think you will find that you can tollerate this inhaler much better than the Albuterol brand!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I have had asthma for my whole life- just don't abuse the inhaler and you will be fine!. I have had no side effects!. It isn't like steroids that are in pill form or injected so it isn't going to have those emotional up and downs, weight gain/loss, or typical symptoms that come from the type of steroid you are thinking of!. Just use the inhaler when you have an attack!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Albuterol is not a steroid, it is a beta two agonist!.
Stomach upset is a side effect, but weight gain or loss is not!.

I also can become very shaky and nervous!. I notice I feel as though I am going to cough more when using it!. It can also make me very hyper!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
