Does General Anesthesia include the Dr injecting you with that poison called Ver!

Question: Does General Anesthesia include the Dr injecting you with that poison called Versed!?
I can't take Versed, I had a paradoxical reaction from it and it left me with PTSD and severe anxiety attacks!.
I found out today that I need a 4 hour surgery and that I'll need to be under General Anesthesia (I was hoping for just a spinal, I HATE being put under!.) I just want to make sure that I'm not pumped full of this poision while I'm out!.!.!.!.If you're knocked out there is no need to be given a drug that will steal away your memory forever, right!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Generally, Versed (midazolam) is often used in a patient who will be going under anesthesia--to help you relax (anti-anxiolytic) and it causes short term amnesia!. However, if you tell the anesthesiologist what you have written here, he/she will not give it to you!. You need to tell each person (surgeon, nurse, anesthesiologist, etc!.) that you had a paradoxical reaction to Versed!. Also, if you are alert, ASK what is being given to you!. You have every right to know!. Good luck with your surgery!Www@Answer-Health@Com

most important thing to remind you of here is that there is one person who is always in control and has the ultimate say in what goes on, and thats you the patient!!! if you dont want this drug then you can refuse it, and if you have had an adverse reaction in the past then the last thing the anaesthetist wil want to do is to give it to you because that is the last thing anyone wants!. make them aware of this adverse reaction and they will probably not give it to you!. in terms of the spinal, im afraid that that is usually at the discresion of the anaesthetist and that is because different surgeries require different anaesthesia!. there is some overlap but if the operation you are going in for is not suitable for a spinal then you will not be able to get one!. but its again definately worth asking about because there is a chance that they may be able to offer a spinal!.

last thing I would say is that the most commonly used general anaesthetic agent is propofol and it is used in conjunction with a muscle relaxant of which versed (midazolam) is not the only one so others can be used!.
have a talk with your anaesthetist and let them know your concerns!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
