Does eating sugar feed cancer cells?!

Question: Does eating sugar feed cancer cells!?
Answers:
All human metabolism depends on glucose as an energy source!. Tumors live on glucose the same as normal body organs and tissue!.

The idea that sugar feeds cancer is based on a misconception of how PET scans work because prior to a PET scan they make you quit eating all sugar and carbs so that when they inject you with radioactive glucose in areas where there are tumors or malignant activity happening the tagged glucose immediately lights up on the PET scans!. This happens because most tumors have a higher metabolic activity level than normal body organs and tissue!. Also, many tumors are highly vascularized so the increased blood supply supplies high levels of glucose to the tumor!. It is not because consuming sugar is feeding your tumor!.

Will stopping eating sugar cause a tumor to shrink!? No, because the tumor always has first dibs on any glucose consumed by the body and therefore you would die of starvation before you reduced your sugar or carb intake enough to make one iota of difference in the tumor's rate of growth!. The tumor always eats first!.

If you have cancer it probably is not wise to eat a poor diet that is high in white sugar but it is my guess that a diet high in sugar would be unpalatable anyways to most people with a serious cancer!. Bottom line - eat a balanced diet of whatever high quality foods will keep you at a normal weight and if that means a piece of chocolate or a bowl of ice cream, then go for it!. When dealing with a serious cancer you always have to look at the big picture and not get sidetracked by urban legends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm going to go with "yes" on this one!. Eating sugar feeds all types of living cells in the human body, and cancer is no exception!. Cancer is perhaps a larger utilizer of sugar than some other cells, and reproduces faster in the case of some types!.

Either way, there isn't a really big up side to eating a lot of sugar, it's basically empty calories!. Since a lot of cancer patients die of cachexia, starve to death, I usually recommend the cancer patients I work with to try and make everything they eat count, in terms of containing calories as well as nutrients (i!.e!. proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. The idea that sugar promotes cancer growth is considered a myth!. Removing sugar from your diet will not prevent cancer !. !.nor will removing sugar cause tumors to slow down !. !. they still grow!. No evidence exists that sugar feeds cancer cells anymore than any other type of food!. Consider that cancer cells were once normal cells within our bodies !. !. whatever you eat that is good for your body !. !. is also good for the cancer cells!. It is far more likely that just regular eating is what 'feeds' cancer cells !. !. that is why cancer patients often look so thin !. !. the body ends up sending all the energy to the tumors !. !.to feed them !. !. has nothing to do with sugar!.
