How come some peoples bodies reject heart transplants?!

Question: How come some peoples bodies reject heart transplants!?
Answers:
All humans ultimately reject hearts!. This is why they are on powerful ANTI-REJECTION medications the rest of their lives!.

Their body treats the new organ as a foreign body and fends it off by making antibodies to destroy it!. The anti-rejection drugs make it easier for the body to conform to the new heart!.

The problem lies with all transplants, not just hearts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

True, True, True, Cindi!.!.!. Anti-rejection meds are more successful in some cases than others, unfortunately!. Heart transplantation still makes the news more!. So, laymen easily think they have much higher rejection rates than they do!.

There are some transplants which do not require immunosuppression (corneal, osteal, skin grafts, etc!.)!. Just about everything else does, though!. Did you read about the young gal who received a liver (I think) transplant as a child!? She had the surgery about age 9!. Her immune system actually changed over to the donated organ's immune profile!. She is truly 1 in a million!. Researchers are trying to figure out how it happened!. I don't remember the case very well!. It hit the AP about 6mos!. ago!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In simple terms, the body's immune system recognizes what is 'self' and what is 'outsider' based on molecules attached to the outside of cells!. Unfortunately, people don't all have the same markers on their cells!. In fact, unless you have an identical twin, NO ONE will have EXACTLY the same markers as you!. So when you get a transplant, your immune system sees the organ as an invader, just like any bacteria, and attacks it!. The anti-rejection meds transplant patients take actually reduces your immune system so that it can't attack the organ!. Since the immune system is down though, it makes you a lot more prone to getting sick in general!.

As for the girl who had the liver transplant, that's basically a miracle!. If they can figure out what happened, they could acheive the holy grail of transplantation!. Exciting stuff!Www@Answer-Health@Com
