I Thought Chemo was supposed to kill cancer!!?!

Question: I Thought Chemo was supposed to kill cancer!!!?
My mom recently won her battle with breast cancer! yay! She has been Doing great for the past year!. She finished chemo about a year ago!. She has been getting back pains, and it is hard for her to breath!. She went in to the ER and was diagnosed with pnemonia!. Yesterday she found out that her problem is something completely different!. She has leisions and pollups on her lungs, they said it is a re-currance of her cancer!. !.!.!.!.!.
So, now she has lung cancer!.
WTF!!! I am so pissed! I thought she was through this!. I thought she beat it!. Isn't the point of chemo to kill off the remaining cancerous cells in her body!? How could this happen!?!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Chemo kills fast growing cells, including, but not limited to cancer, hair, and nails!.
Assuming that it did kill all of your mother's cancer, It can start again, just like it did the first time!. Chemo is not a get out of jail free card to be permanently cancer free,
Much of today's treatments are aimed at not just killing the cancer, but preventing a recurrence!.
I just finished my own treatment for breast cancer, but that doesn't mean that I will never have it again!. I do everything that I can to prevent it!.
Early detection and early treatment are very important!.
Put on your best face and stand by her for what is a long road!. She will be forever grateful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When the chemo is attempting to rid your body of the cancerous cells, it is attacking ALL the cells in your body not just the cancerous ones!. If the chemo attacks too many of the non-cancerous cells in your body, in can leave you extremely susceptible to more cancer if any new cells are introduced, or if any remain from the chemotherapy!.

Hope that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am sorry about your mom's recurrence and the roller coaster ride of emotions your family has been on!. My mom had breast cancer as well!. I can't speak specifically on your mom's case but I do know a common spot for breast cancer to recur is in the bones and lungs!. If the breast cancer recurred in the lungs then it is still breast cancer!. It is breast cancer that spread (metastasized) to the lungs!. Unfortunately, sometimes chemo doesn't kill all the cancer cells and a few cells remain and spread!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm so sorry that your mum's cancer is back!.

She was in remission from breast cancer, but it has now apparently spread to her lungs!. This is not a new cancer, it is still breast cancer, but it has spread!.

There are no guarantees, either with breast cancer or with chemo!.

Breast cancer can recur at any time, even years after treatment; no doctor will tell a breast cancer patient she is cured or has the 'all clear'!.

Chemo is the best we currently have, but sadly doesn't come with guarantees!. It does not, as some ill-informed people have said here, kill more people than it cures!. Many people go on to die from cancer after treatment, but it is the cancer that has killed them despite treatment, not the chemo!. Chemo is far from perfect, but it does save many lives and prolongs many, many more

My best wishes to your mother, and to youWww@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately, once your have cancer, you will always have cancer cells circulation in the blood!. The chemo probably woke up the dormant cells!. Lungs are the closes place for the cells to settle once it spreads!. Take more pictures of your mom, stay positive for her and make her feel how indepentant you are so she doesn't have to worry about you!. I've been there, done that with my mom!. I have all our pictures for me to smile at!. My mom passed away 4 months ago!. My prayers to you and your family!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry to hear that!. Unfortunately chemotherapy doesn't always kill all the cancer cells!. Some of the can stay dormant and get reactivated after a while!.

From a medical standpoint, this is not called lung cancer!. It's called breast cancer which metastasized (spread) to the lung!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chemo doesn't guarantee that cancer will not come back, and there is never any guarantee that it can destroy every cell!.
Unfortunately, recurrances of cancer are not uncommon!.
Hopefully your mom will beat this, just like she did before!.
Sorry you have to go through that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chemo does kill cancer cells, but it isn't a guarantee to get all the cancer!. I had breast cancer in 2000 and I had chemo and it came back in 2007!. It may buy us time, but no one can say that treatment is a sure bet!. I'm sorry you and your mom are going through all this!. Be there for each other!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chemo kills all types of cells: healthy and cancerous!. That's why it makes you so sick!.

Your mom went through what is called "remission," where the cancer appears to have stopped growing, or gone completely!.

I hope for the best for you and your mother!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chemo kills more people than it saves according to the Lancet Medical Journal!. I would advise checking out the following website!.
