How easy is cancer to get?!

Question: How easy is cancer to get!?
Answers:
You have asked a very challenging question, and I'm not sure that there is any simple answer!. Since cancers are common, they must be relatively easy to get, but there are many diffeerent pathways and many different factors, and if you could elucidate one or more to the benefit of humanity in general, I feel quite certain that you'd be a candidate for a Nobel Prize!

Some kinds of cancer are known to be related to or caused by things in the environment or workplace!. Not everyone who is exposed to known carcinogens gets cancer, so obviously, other factors play a role, and we do not necessarily know what those other factors are!. The best-known is the relationship between smoking and lung cancer!. Occupational exposure to asbestos results in the occurrence of mesothelioma in a significant proportion of those exposed!. Watch dial painters who painted luminescent numbers on watch dials using a radium-containing paint were known to moisten or shape their brushes with their lips and mouth, and they ingested some of the radioactive paint, resulting in a significant proportion of those workers developing bone cancers!. Analine dye workers in Germany and elsewhere were found to have a high risk of developing bladder cancers!. Analine dyes are related to the tars found in tobacco smoke, and smokers are also at increased risk of bladder cancers!.

Dr!. Rous, working at the Johns Hopkins University Medical School was awarded a Nobel Prize for the discovery that a virus could cause sarcomas in chickens!. Some cancers in humans, such as Burkitt's lymphoma, have been linked to a virus!.

Some cancer risk is hereditary!. There are at least two known genes (BrCa1 and BrCa2) that predispose to breast cancer!. The risk of colon cancer seems to be inherited as an autosomal dominant, with the gene present in about 30% of the general population in the USA!. The risk of developing lung cancers in smokers seems to be at least partially genetically determined, with about 15% of the general population at high risk of developing lung cancer as a result of smoking!.

Chronic exposure to sunlight produces changes in the skin that predispose to the development of skin cancers!.

So cancers may be easy to get, and they are common, but we don't have any good way of predicting most cancers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
