With so many women's cancers, why women live longer than men?!

Question: With so many women's cancers, why women live longer than men!?
Women are prone to so many cancers that are exclusive to women's organs, why do they still live longer than men on average!? (I think this factor should outweigh the fact that men smoke more, drink more, etc!.) If you could choose, would you want to be male or female, health-wise!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

you are comparing the longest living women and men, and they usually dont' die of cancer or serious diseases!. they die natural deaths!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Female!. I know, even men have prostate, but you're right, we can have breast cancer, and other things!. I think women tend to be smarter than men, that's why they live longer hahaha!

I think women go to their doctor for check ups and their gynecologists more than men (well obviously the gyn!)!. Men are like, "I don't need this, I'm a man, I can handle this! *croak* *die*"Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your initial premise seems to be that women get more cancers than men, and this is not the case!. According to the statistics from www!.cancer!.org, in 1999, there were in the United States 1,221,800 new cancers, with 623,800 occurring in men and 598,000 occurring in women!.

To the extent that men don't get uterine or cervical cancer because they don't have a uterus or cervix, men don't get ovarian cancer because they don't have ovaries, and women are more likely to get breast cancer than men, women are subject to certain types of cancer more often than men!.
But women don't get cancer of the testes or of the prostate, and men do!. Men are more likely to get lung cancer than women, but not by much, and it correlates with the amount of smoking!. Cancers of the digestive tract are more frequent in men, and cancer of the pancreas occurs nearly equally in men and women!. So one reason women live longer than men is that women don't get cancer quite as often as men!.

I suspect that there may be a more deeply seated reason, as well!. Women are known to have a greater reserve capacity in their organ systems, overall about 10% greater than the reserve capacity of men!. I have no evidence to support this, but it is my personal belief that women need this greater reserve capacity in order to be able to carry and have children!. And if aging involves the gradual but progressive loss of reserve capacity, and it is scientifically proven that this does occur, then women still tend to have some extra reserve capacity when the reserve capacity of the organ systems of a male have been used up!. If that reserve capacity is about 10%, and that number is scientifically supported, then women should, on average, live about ten per cent longer than men do, and this is exactly what one sees on longevity and mortality tables,

So, with some facts and some speculation, I can make a good case for women to live longer than men, with or without reference to the incidence and mortality rates related to cancers!.

As to whether I would rather be one sex than the other, I was born male, and I have no reason to wish to be something I am not!. Ultimately, the most important part of one's life is not how long it is, but how well one lives it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
