You lay on a table fully clothed even with shoes on, and they give you an IV that has some radioactive dye in it!. They then slide you underneath this big box that basically is almost like an internal video xray camera that can pick up the dye while still laying on the table!. They then record pictures every 60 seconds of where the dye is working its way through your body!. You will see the dye hit your liver and the move on to your gallbladder and then on to your intestine!. This is the first part of the test that checks to make sure you don't have blockages somewhere along the road or obvious stones!.

If they don't see anything that's causing your problems they then do the second half of the test!. In this test they give you a hormone (also through the IV site) that is supposed to hit your gallbladder and contract your gallbladder much like a beating heart!. This test is usually about 30 minutes and once again they have you under the camera to take pictures every 60 seconds!. This is to check your ejection fraction!. That means its checking to see how much your gallbladder contracts and "ejects" bile!. A normal ejection fraction is anywhere from 40% up to ideally 100%!.

I was expecting something totally different test wise!. I at least thought I would have to get in a gown and was shocked they could do it with me in full street clothes and shoes!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I just had a Hida Scan on Monday!. It was not bad at all!. I was supposed to have the two hour scan for my Galbladder!. You are given an IV and injection of the nuclear Meds!.

My scan could not be completed because after an hour and a half my Galbladder did not show!. So they kept scanning me for four hours!. I had to have a CT the next day and I am waiting for the results!.

It was really easy!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
