Anyone have knowledge about MRSA in newborns?!

Question: Anyone have knowledge about MRSA in newborns!?
I took my 1 month old son to his 1st month appt last week, and he just so happen to have this spot on his thumb!. It was green surrounded by light yellow!. The Dr!. ended up pricking it and sending the drainage off to the lab!. She prescribed some Mupirocin ointment to put on it!.!.!.!.!.and over the weekend another lil spot appeared on the other side of his thumb!. This Monday she pricked that spot also and put him on antibiotics!. Well he had his re-check today!. The thumb looks all better like its healing!. No more spots so far!. But she said his culture from last week tested for MRSA!

She said it's nothing I did wrong, and to watch out for cuts and scrapes on his body!. Also to stop giving the antibiotics since he has MRSA!. She mentioned a stronger med that he may take once he's 2 months old!. Whats the warning signs that this is getting worse!? When does it get fatal!? How did he possibly get it!?

I'm already a worry wart when it comes to my kids!. This doesn't sound good to me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If the spots on your son's thumb are healing, then don't worry!. If he gets any other spots, take him back to the doctor as soon as possible!. If he starts running a fever, has a lack of energy, irritability or any unusual symptoms, I would also take him in!.

If he gets sick, they will put him on the necessary antibiotics, regardless of his age!. We give 2 pound premature babies the necessary medications if they need it!.

MRSA is much more common than people realize, and not as bad as people make it sound!. Although it is resistant to the normal (or common) antibiotics, it does respond to stronger antibiotics!. It only gets fatal when it is left untreated when the person who has it is extremely sick, but is not being cared for with the correct antibiotics!. If your son shows no signs of being sick, he will be ok!. If he does get sick, take him to the hospital, and he will be ok!.

Because MRSA is more common than people realize, your son could have gotten it anywhere!. It is becoming more common in school age kids, authorities think the children are getting it from the gym and playground equipment!. MRSA is colonized on many peoples hands, so someone who doesn't wash their hands well may have given it to him!. MRSA can also live for a time on surfaces, so something that wasn't cleaned well enough (even something like a grocery cart) may have transfered it to him!.

To be on the safe side, I would wash the hard surfaces in your house with a bleach solution and wash his linen, clothes and bedding well!. Wash his linen, clothes and bedding separately from the rest of the family for a few weeks until your sure he's not getting other spots so that someone else in your house doesn't show up with it too!.

Try not to worry about it!. He may never show signs of MRSA again!. Just be the good mother that you sound like you are and keep an eye out for any signs of illness and get it checked out!. He'll be just fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would fiund another doctor!. I am a worrier myself and I cannot see having a newborn that has MRSA and having a doctor tell you to wait a month!!!! Find a new doctor or go to a hospital that you trust and tell them what your doc told you!. If they agree at least you have a second opinion!. I just would think you would need to be more pro active about something like this!. I will be praying for your little one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
