EXTREME hair loss. plz help?!

Question: EXTREME hair loss!. plz help!?
I'm a 23 year old thats been suffering through extensive hair loss over the pass 14 months and now its getting even worse!. My dermatologist took one glance and concluded with male-pattern baldness!. I got my thyroid hormone levels tested with a blood test and all seems within the documented normal range!. I have no family history of baldness AND I DO NOT suffer from a receding hairline!. I'm simply losing a lot of hair on the top of the head!. Its so bad that when i run my hands through my hair, I will have hair on my hands!. Upon closer observation of my fallen hair, I noticed that not only do they contain the white bulb at the root end, but some also seem to bring out some skin-colored gunk at the root end!. I've been on Propecia for 6 weeks and the condition is just getting worse!. Sometimes I feel that my scalp is more sensative in the hair loss region!. I do'nt notice any "scales" on my head!. Gosh I'm dying to know what is really wrong with me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Dear Zaloyi:

Damn! What a problem you have!. I decided to answer this question : go get your thyroid tested, but you already did that!.

As for male-pattern baldness, are your Mothers brothers bald!? Was your Mothers father bald!? Sounds like you've already explored that!.

Interestingly, you find the white bulb at the root end, but some skin-colored GUNK at the end of the root end!.

I am a registered nurse just trying to help others with my limited knowledge!. I just wanted you to know that much!.

My suggestion is that you see another type of specialist (other than a dermatologist)!.

GUNK at the root-end tells me that there is some type of infection going on with your hair follicles!.

To decide where to turn next, I have questions!.

How is your general health!?

Are you on any medication (other than Propecia)!? There are medications that cause hair loss!.

I'm leaning toward advising you to see an ENDOCRINOLOGIST!.

My second thought is to advise a different DERMATOLOGIST!.

My third thought is to ask have you had a general physical with bloodwork by a GENERAL PRACTITIONER!?

I'm wondering if you have a scalp infection!. But I feel I'm over-stepping my RN degree here!. !. !. !. !.but keep in mind that this world is money driven!. Some docs who have no clue do not refer you to the proper doc because they just want your money!. Sad, but true!.

You made no mention of your CBC with differential or your BMP or CMP!.

I really didn't want to answer this question because I am not an expert in hair loss!. I'm just an RN wishing to guide you to a better outcome/explanation!.

BOTTOM LINE: Don't put too much strength in just one expert opinion!. There are other experts out there!. And, do keep in mind that the expert that you are with right now wants your $$$$$$$$$$$$!.

At least, I have given you something to think about!.

If one remedy is not helping, man, go search for another remedy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
