Genital herpes and delivery?!

Question: Genital herpes and delivery!?
I have a mild case of genital herpes!. So mild it is basically non-existent (even though I'm aware I will always be a carrier, unfortunately)!. Anyways, first I need to know if swelling throughout the whole area down there in the vagina/region is just a part of normal pregnancy or something that is considered an active infection even though no sores are present!. (basically wanting to know if swelling is a part of herpes and if so, is it something that can also hurt my baby if delivered vaginally) and also would like to know if it's true that babies born to women known to carry the virus, have to be isolated in the hospital nursery!? If that's true, will it be obvious to family and friends, for the reason of isolation!? My husband and I (besides my OB) are the only ones who know I have herpes and I tend to keep it that way, due to privacy issues!. Don't worry!. I don't share towels or expose others' in any manner to the virus!. I just want to keep it between my husband and I!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When i was pregnant, especially there towards the end, i got swollen down there too!.

They say that you have a low chance of spreading the HSV virus to a baby during birth, as long as you are not having an actual outbreak, because since your blood goes to the baby, the baby is getting HSV antibodies from you!.

However, you can give it to the baby in vaginal delivery if you are having an active outbreak!.

If i were you, i would just tell my OBGYN that you want him to check it out down there to be sure, because you think you might be having an outbreak!. He'll check it out for you!.

If it turns up that you are not having an outbreak, then that will open up the conversation to talk about the what-ifs and you can ask him and share your concerns!.

If you are having an outbreak, then chances are he will opt for performing a C-section, to prevent spreading it to the baby!.

I have never heard of anything about hospitals isolating babies of HSV positive women!. That seems a bit over the top to me!.

Talk to your Doctor, he'll be most familiar with the practices of the hospital that you will be delivering at!.

And just think, if for some reason you DO have to deal with the hospital isolating your baby because of that reason, then you'll get rich as hell off the lawsuit you will file against them for it! (I would sue in a heaartbeat, it's discriminatory and unneccessary!!!)Www@Answer-Health@Com

They don't have to isolate your baby!

They may give you antiviral medication for the last few weeks of the pregnancy to prevent you having an outbreak at the time of the birth and giving the virus to your baby!.

You only need a c-section if you have an outbreak at the time of labour - my sister has herpes like me and she has had three healthy babies by vaginal delivery!.

You answered the rest!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, swelling might be caused by sex!.
And you should ask your doctor directly!. I expect he/she got much more weird questions than that, so ask him/her everything you need to know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

C-section and you won't contaminate your baby!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the genital swelling is a symptom of herpes and happens durring a bad outbreak!. i had that on my first outbreak!. i don't think pregnancy or recent sex would cause that!.
it is possible that herpes could harm the baby if delivered vaginally so talk to your doctor about having a c-section, that will prevent herpes being spread to your baby!.
as for the isolation that would be another thing to talk to the hospital or the doctor about but i don't see why they would have to isolate the baby!. they would just have to be extra careful so they don't spread herpes to other babies!. i'm sure that they know of all the proper precautions!. if your friends ask why just tell them that u would rather not say or that is information u want to keep private!.
there should be no aquardness or undisclosed information between u and your doctor even if they are male!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
