Its a sign of ketoacidosis meaning your sugar levels are too high, I'm diabetic and u will get a sweet smell to the breath, and then it will turn to bad breath, check blood sugars, if high eat something, small portion( half an apple with peanut butter, half orange, or cheese), or I carry around with me Glucose tablets, you can get these from a pharmacy, three tabs will do it, but the down side to that is its starts osmosis, so be close to the bathroom!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's hard to say with the description you've given as there are many things that can cause "bad breath!."

If it smells like acetone (nail polish remover), this could indicate out of control diabetes !.!.!. high blood sugar levels!.

If you suspect this, it's very important to get that person tested for diabetes as the acetone smelling breath only comes about when things are going drastically wrong!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If a person has diabetes and goes into ketosis ( fat burning) he can exhale ketone bodies which have an unpleasant odor and leave a bad taste in his mouth!. The thirst and dry mouth will make it worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetes itself tends to cause a sweet smell to the breath!. But diabetes tends to cause sinus and gum infections which can cause bad breath!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
