There could be!. It's very controversial, just as 'Is there a rapist gene!?' 'Is there a gene to be a murderer!?'!. Some doctors and scientists believe it, some don't!. There's always proof for both sides, rather it's a gene or not!. You should be cautious, in my opinion, because while I don't think it's a gene, I do believe it's a behavior that is more likely to be passed through families!. The reason is simply because if you see someone as a alcoholic, and you see it often, your mind is more prone to say: it's okay!. You're more used to what it can bring on, and you think your defenses against it are stronger, when they're really not!. Of course, anyone should be careful when beginning to drink because it's very easy to slip!. Letting yourself risk it is always very dangerous!. But, if you drink in moderation, not very often, and you make sure you're very careful and don't use it as a gateway substance, you should be okay!. As always, and with everyone (even not from a family with a background in alcohol), use it with caution! :) Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not really a genetic mutations as much a predisposition!. you are more likely to become an alcoholic than other people simply because your father was!. There are conflicting reasons for this, some believe it is genetic, others say it is because children learn most of thier behaviors from thier parents, and may learn to copy them!. here, this site has alot of good information on it!.

YES! Please be very aware of this! I feel like it doesn't always affect every member of the family though, if you have an addictive personality/nature you could very well fall into it as well! My dad was an alcoholic, we all grew up hating it!. my 3 brother's are, 2 of my sister's are, I very well could have been, but thankfully made myself stop before it got out of control, and sadly, my 33 yr!. old son is, he's been for most his life!. Take care and please be very aware!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe there is a genetic link!.
But there isn't (to my knowledge) an 'alcoholic' gene!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
