Questions from the book that are left unanswered are tough!. The book covers so much more ground than people would expect based on the movie!. But I think I can help!.
1) What were the effects of the Depression on the guards!? Could this be why some of them have their jobs at Cold Mountain!? or were they some of the lucky ones who avoided most of the devastating effects!?
2) What about John Coffey's past has caused him to stay a "kid" after all these years!? Was this due to harsh or no relations with his parents!? or mental retardation!?
3) How does Paul feel that the prisoners will be judged before God!? I remember Brutal saying (about Delacroix) "He's paid what is due" referring to his life, but is this a unanimous feeling amongst the guards!?
4) Paul is said to have had two kids!. What did they end up doing with their lives and what effect did Paul's job have on them!?
5) What did the flies (bugs) actually represent in relation to Coffey!?
6) Everything seems to have a dual meaning!. Could Brad Dolan be working in the nursing home by fate!? Was it because Paul was supposed to remember his days on the mile!? Maybe his remembrance was meant to bring about a change that we were unable to see!.
7) I believe in the book it was stated that Brutal has no wife, but that it also said that he was kind, caring man!. Did Brutal have a wife who possibly died!? He seems like too much of a family man!.
