Can I give genital herpes to myself? I have the oral kind, my bf kissed me & the!

Question: Can I give genital herpes to myself!? I have the oral kind, my bf kissed me & then!.!.!.!?
So I got my first cold sore 3 days ago (Thurs) & I didn't realise what it was at the time, since I've never had one!. I kissed my bf Thursday & Friday!. On Friday he went down on me after kissing me!.

Since then we have realised what it was (today basically, Sat) & have stopped all kissing and related activities, but I'm wondering if it would be possible for me to contract genital herpes from this experience!.!.!. basically from my own saliva which would be on his mouth, or whatever, because his mouth definitely touched my cold sore the first few days, and then whatever that was made contact with my genitals through his mouth!.

I am kind of really, really worried about this - has this happened to anyone else before, or does anyone have any information on if you think I'd get genital herpes from this!? That's what I am most worried about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No, you can't catch genital herpes from your own cold sores, but your boyfriend CAN get oral herpes - cold sores - from kissing you when you have one!.

Unless he already had the virus, there is a pretty good chance of him catching it from you!. There IS about a 60% chance he has the virus already like you - that is the percentage of young adults that have it!. However, if none of his family have it and he has never had symptoms it is quite possible he does not have it!.

I have answered a few questions exactly like this in the past, and I can never understand why the people are fretting that THEY might have caught genital herpes, but aren't worried sick that they might could well have given their partner oral herpes!

You aren't going to catch your own herpes virus down below - you already have it!. You produce antibodies to the virus which prevent you from getting it in another part of your body!. See

for more information!.

But your boyfriend should be worried! Oral is just as bad as genital!. You probably got it when you were a child from your parents - some people just don't get many outbreaks - but when you actually catch it for the very first time it can be horrible!. It is usual to have flu like symptoms and a fever, and feel very ill - it is a virus, after all!.

One other thing - if he has never had cold sores in the past - and doesn't therefore have oral herpes - if you have it and you give him unprotected oral sex you can give him gential herpes - even when you do not have a cold sore!. It doesn't matter how careful you are about looking out for them, you can infect him when you have no symptoms (although the risk is lower)!. My boyfriend got cold sores and gave me genital herpes through giving me oral sex when he was absolutely symptom-free!.

It used to be believed that hsv-1 didn't 'like' to infect the genitals, because it was an oral virus, but in fact it infects the genitals just as willingly as hsv-2 - it just causes fewer outbreaks once it is there!.

The most recent statistics show that among young people 70% of genital herpes infections are now caused by hsv-1, the so-called 'oral' herpes virus!. Genital herpes type hsv-1 is normally caught through receiving oral sex from a partner that gets cold sores, so remember the risk is always there!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is not that likely but it is possible sorry!.!.!.it isn't likely, because air would have probably killed the virus before he went down on you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Technically your b/f could transfer the genital type of Herpes from your genitals, to your mouth, yes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is possible, click on the link below!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they are two different strains of virus!.

Ari: there are two types of herpes simplex virus that infect the skin they are HSV-1 and HSV-2!. 1 is the usual cause of cold sores on the lips and may even effect the cornea of the eye!. it's usually transmitted by contact w/secretions from or around the mouth!. 2 usually causes genital herpes and is transmitted primarily by Direct contact with sores - most often during sexual contact!. i'm not certain, but i would think since cold sores and genital herpes are caused by two separate/different strains of the virus that it would be unlikely you could get genital herpes from the HSV-1 type!. if you think you may have HSV-2, genital, i would go see your GYN ASAP!. either way there is a prescription Acyclovir that will help control your cold sores!. the virus can be active even when you don't have a cold sore!. just keep track of when you get that tingly feeling in your lip and keep from kissing!. i'm not an expert but i seriously do not think what you asked is possible!. though, it's best that you ask your Dr!. or try webmd!.com take care!. remember you're not alone and try not to be upset all sorts of things happen to people in this world!. and i'm glad you're reaching out for help!. More than likely you will be fine!. But your boyfriend could now have cold sores!. And he can spread it by giving you oral!. But it would only show up on your genitals once and then the next out break would be on your lips!. This is because Herpes simplex one lives in the part of the spinal cord near your head, so there for the out breaks are found as cold sores on your mouth!. And herpes simplex two lives closer to the base of your spinal cord and has out breaks on your genitals!. So no, you will not have genital herpes for the most part, even if you did get herpes simplex one on your genitals your future out breaks would still be on your lips!. I hope this helps and isn't confusing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This answer will get complicated, so please bear with me!.

First of all, its possible that your BF had oral herpes before you even met him!. 50% of people get herpes by the time they are adults, and by the time a person turns 50, there is an 80% chance that they have it!. Its so common that most people don't even worry about it!. You shouldn't kiss anyone when you have a cold sore, but other than that, most folks just treat cold sores as normal!.

Second, once you have oral herpes on your mouth (that is, the HSV1 virus on your mouth) it is much less likely that you will get it on your genitals!. It is possible, but not very likely!. Having HSV1 may even make it less likely that you will get HSV2 (the other herpes virus)!.

BUT if you have JUST caught HSV1, then your body hasn't really developed much of an immunity to it - so just for the next few months, its still a bit more likely that you can get the same virus on your genitals!.

Note that some of the other answers on here are WRONG!. You can indeed get HSV1 on your genitals or HSV2 on your mouth, its just less likely!.

The method that you have described (your cold sore to his mouth to your genitals) is pretty unlikely, though!. It is much more likely that he would catch oral herpes from you (really catch it, not just have it on his lips) and then infect you with it!.

My advice!?

a) learn all you can about herpes and how it is transmitted!. My fave website is linked below!.

b) never kiss anyone or give anyone oral sex when you have a cold sore!. You are likely to spread herpes, and kissing someone with an open sore is just gross!.

Other than that, there isn't a very effective way to prevent oral-to-genital herpes transmission!. He could wear a condom while you give him oral sex - but not many people actually do that and HSV1 transmission to the genitals is less likely than to the mouth (not impossible, just less likely)!. And if he gets it, the only thing to do is to use some sort of barrier when he gives you oral sex - again, something that not many folks do!.

You can get medication from your doctor that will reduce the likelihood of transmission, but there will still be a risk!. And you CAN spread herpes even when you don't have a cold sore!.

Great question!. And good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
