Answers:
hi you i have type 2 also i not to sure if the weight loss is due here because of his diabetes or metformin if you husband has lost a lot of weight due to a good Diet and exercises and his blood sugar levels are as you say between 12 and 16 mmols the one thing his doctor wont do is give him more metformin as weight loss is a side affect of it but his doctor mite give him something else with metformin or just some other kind of med alone but the one thing i would do id go back to his doctorWww@Answer-Health@Com

Anti-glycemic medication has to be adjusted according to diet and exercise!. If the patient feels hypoglycemia, the strength of the medication has to be reduced!. If the patient has hyperglycemia, then the dose of the medication has to be increased!. This will be done by the doctor by trial and error!. Diabetes Mellitus control can be monitored using plasma glucose, HbA1CWww@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like he is doing all the right stuff and his sugars are not improving!. Obviously this is a question for his PCP or endocrinologist!. It's possible if he has been on the Metformin a while it might need a little increase!. It's also possible his diabetes is advancing and he still may need something a little more!. If the increase in his sugar while on the metformin is new he could be fighting an infection, stress can raise blood sugar and any changes he may have made recently to other aspects of his life!. I nearly got myself hospitalized by mearly taking a chewable vit!. c tab for a few days when I got sick!.!. bumped my sugars by almost 150 points!.!. Simple cough medicine, cough drops anything of the sort And I thought I was doing the right thing taking Vit!. CWww@Answer-Health@Com

Each person, whether diabetic or not, is a separate being, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer for how much medication one should take!. Your husband needs to talk with an endocrinologist about his medications!. Sometimes metformin alone is not enough medication!. He might need another!. There are many choices, but they must be made with medical help!.

Right now, I take metformin and insulin!. I have taken other diabetic oral medications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are a number of factors to be considered such as any other medication he's on, other complications like heart problems & if his diabetes is worsening!. Your husband's dosage/medication is really a matter for his doctor who can monitor the whole situation!. He can also try natural treatments to support his prescribed medication for improved symtom relief!. My father, also a diabetic, suffers neuopathic pain in his feet & is limited to the meds he can take due of his heart condition!. His doctor recommended he wear magnetic therapy garments to aid circulation & provide joint support during exercise which have helped him a lot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best advise is to consult the doctor as most of the people here are not doctors , either they are sharing their own experience or searching the internet and posting!.

Every diabetic is unique and have different complications!. Do not increase metformin dose by your own !.Metformin also has the side effects , weight loss is one of them!.See your diabetologgist or endrcronologist these people are expert in their fields and will adjust the dose of your husband!.

He needs to see his doctor to discuss this!. Only his doctor knows about his diabetes, and should be the only one telling him how to take his medication!. To much or to little of te medication could kil him!. Self diagnosis, or family/friend diagnosis is a dangerous thing, and should not be allowed!. Nor should self medicating/ or adjustment of medications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is something only his doctor can tell him!. He may need to take an addition type of medication with his metformin!. He needs to go see his doctor as soon as he can!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
