Swimmers Ear or Ear Infection?!

Question: Swimmers Ear or Ear Infection!?
Ok, my outer ear hurts like not the hole inside but the actual outer part of the ear!. The hole feels a little stuffed like there is wax thats blocking it a little!. I am almost positive its not an ear infection because I was reading about ear infections and most people that have it say that their jaws hurt and that the whole in their ear is very painful!. Thats not the case with me and I was reading about swimmers ear and i'm thinking I probably have it because for about a month now I have been getting creamy white and yellow stuff that comes out my ear when I clean it!. I have a doctors appointment scheduled for tomorrow but I just was wondering if I have swimmers ear or an ear infection!. Also, if they give me antibiotics, are they bad!? I was reading somewhere that antibiotics for the ears is bad!. Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi,

'Swimmer's ear' is a type of ear infection that affects the outside of the ear!. Yes, most of the ear infections show signs and symptoms as you have stated but that is middle ear infection (otitis media)!. Swimmer's ear is an outside ear infection (otitis externa)!. They both require antibiotics; thus, you should goto your doctor for medication!. Otitis media is treated with oral antibiotics and outside ear infections are treated with drops!. Pain in the jaw means that the MIDDLE ear infection has been allowed to persist and traveled to the jaw!. The anatomy of the jaw and the ear are linked and this actually requires hospitalization in certain cases, but that is not what you have according to your description!.

Good luck! No swimming for a while!. Oh, untreated ear infection is worse than any antibiotics for the ear will ever do!. A simple infection left untreated could result in serious systemic infections and you don't want that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds like an ear infection especially since you are seeing discharge when you clean your ear!. Don't put a q-tip in there because you may make it worse!. Just wait until you see the doctor!. And yes they will give you an oral antibiotic that targets soft tissue in the face an neck!. Probably Keflex or Amoxicillin!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yeah it's probably just swimmers ear i've had it a few times
antibiodicts will clear it right up i don't know who told you they are bad!.

you'll be fine and your doctor might even give you some pain killers like mine did!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

im a swimmer and i think it might be an ear infection, the way you say it sounds like there is an ear infection!. you might want to consult a doctor!. or you can wait and see what happans!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Untreated ear infection can damage the ear/hearing!. You'll probably get antibiotic ear drops!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
