Can brain damage occur after being exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide?!

Question: Can brain damage occur after being exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide!?
Hi, my Mother has a condition called copd!. She had gotten a cold and ended up in the hospital with bronchitis!. We brought her home & were going to take turns staying with her while we were making arrangements to have a visiting nurse come in!. On the third day of her being home it was my turn to stay!. When I first saw her I knew something was not right!. She kept sleeping & could not seem to stay awake! My Mother had a hard time breathing at night & at 2:00am I called my sister over!. We could not wake her!. She was rushed to the hospital!. The doctors told us that she had 80% of carbon monoxide in her system! She was givien her last rights!. They put her on a B-Pak machine!. Thank God she pulled through! But my Mother is not the same as she was before! I`ve asked the doctors a thousand times if she has brain damage!? They keep telling me she is just confused!. I look into my Mothers wonderful eyes & she`s just not there anymore! I want some straight answers! Can any of you PLEASE help me!? ThankWww@Answer-Health@Com

I'm so sorry about your mom!. :-( Now, was it carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide!? Although carbon monoxide does increase in individuals with failing pulmonary function, it's usually carbon dioxide that rises to high levels!. The longer the brain is kept deprived of oxygen, the higher likelihood of developing problems as a result!. You mentioned that she was close to passing on and recuperated!. How is she now!? How's her breathing!? Her airways!? I ask because although she pulled through, she may still be under the "effect" of carbon dioxide and thus seeming spaced out if she not getting proper breathing treatments OR is not responding well to oxygen treatments if any!. I hope she gets better!. My grandma had COPD but never seemed incoherent or amnesiac!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'm no doctor, if i was you get a second opinion, this one must be a bit stupid to stop looking deeper into what's happeningWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would bet that she had high carbon DIOXIDE (CO2) not carbon monoxide!. That happens with COPD!. High carbon dioxide can cause the patient to be confused but as far as I know, it does not cause brain damage!.

A common treatment for high carbon dioxide is a Bi PAP machine!. That stands for bi level (2 levels) Positive Airway Pressure!.

Ask her doctor if there is a pulmonary rehab program in your area!. The exercises she learns (and you too) can help her get rid of carbon dioxide at home!. Or see if she can have a home BiPAP to help blow off the CO2Www@Answer-Health@Com
