It is very rare to do this after your first outbreak!.

Once you have had the virus a few months on your mouth, you produce antibodies that protect you from getting the exact same virus somewhere else on your body!. 'Auto-innoculation', as it is called, generally happens during the very first outrbeak of herpes you have, when you haven't developed antibodies!.

That said, it can happen - very rarely - to people who have immune problems!. However, it IS rare - 80% of adults have oral herpes, most of us touch our mouths then our genitals at some point and do not infect ourselves!. I have NEVER come across someone, on the internet or in real life, who did this after they had had the virus in the first place for at least 3-6 months!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You definetly can!.Not thru saliva though but if you touch a cold sore, you get the virus on your finger and then if you touch yourself in your private area without washing hands first you can transfer the virus down there!.Thats why its important to wash or desinfect your hands if you have a virus constantly after getting close to the sore!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. If the person has oral herpes, it's very likley that they can transfer the oral herpes to their genital, therefore causing genital herpes!. **Thoes** people need to find something better to do with there time!. They do have toys you know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My doctor told me that if you have oral herpes it could be passed to the genital area, even tough it is a different strand of the herpes virus!. A virus is a virus and a mucus membrane is a mucus membraneWww@Answer-Health@Com
