Hypothyroidism?!

Question: Hypothyroidism!?
So, I've been trying to lose weight for some time now!. I went to

my endocrinologist's (I'm type 1 diabetic-the genetic kind)

and she said that my last blood test showed high TH results,

or something like that!. she said i could have hypothyroidism,

which slows down weight loss, makes you sleepy(Which

sometimes I am really tired, like falling asleep in class), and

frequent periods and blottine(I get this often) but I was going

through it in my head!. Maybe I do have it!? I mean, I am only

16, but my mom, grandmom, and aunt who all have type 1

diabetes have it!.!.!.am I just being paranoid or does it seem like

I have it!? I want to know if I should make another dr

appointment sooner!. My next one is in August and I'd like to

start on a pill if I have it, so what do you think!?!? Sorry this is so

long!.!.!.but thank you!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, if your mom and grandmother have it, then I don't have to spell out the symptoms!. You descibed them well!. I think another sign is thinning hair!. Heavy periods, weight gain, slower heart rate and sometimes even trouble with memory!. But again, if you have it in your family, you already know that!. I'd go to the dr to be sure and to get treatment!. If you don't have it, then you can just do the victory dance!!!!! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is very likely!. Most hypothyroidism is caused by Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an autoimmune disease!. Your diabetes is also an autoimmune disease!. If you have one autoimmune disease, you are at greater risk of getting others!. Also, there is already a family history of hypothyroidism!. If your TSH is high, you definitely are hypothyroid!. The new standard of "normal" for TSH is 0!.3-3!.0!. It's treated with thyroid hormone replacement pills!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They thyroid test probably was a low normal and she will keep an eye on it, testing every so many months!. If you would have needed it she would have put you on thyroid medicine!. August should be ok, they check it every 3 to 6 months!. I have hypothyroid and when it gets low that is when they worry about medication, not high, that would be hyperthyroidism!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The endocrinologist should know whether you have it!. You should call and ask her!. When people have a non-functioning thyroid gland, T3 and T4 are low in the plasma/blood evoun though TSH is high, because TSH tries to get your thyroid to put out more T3/T4!. It causes sleepiness, and weight gain even though you don't eat much at all!. You might just have slightly abnormal levels, but not so far to need treatment, but it's hard to say!? good luck =)Www@Answer-Health@Com
