Question: How does malaria affect the population of individuals with and without sickle cell anemia!?
Answers:
Malaria is a protozoan disease cause by plasmodium falciparum, plasmodium vivax, plasmodium ovale, and plasmodium malarie!. It is transmitted by the bites of infected mosquitoes!. the parasite circulate in the vascular system causing clinical manifestations like chills and fever or organ damage!.
People with sickle cell have a different red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin* S, an abnormal type of hemoglobin!. Sometimes these red blood cells become sickle-shaped (crescent shaped) and have difficulty passing through small blood vessels!. Sickle Cell trait (AS) is an inherited condition in which both hemoglobin A and S are produced in the red blood cells, always more A than S!. therefore if someone has trait it cannot support a parasite and the parasite dies or is sequetrated in the spleen!. If disease it may be fatal as many Red blood cells sickle and go into sickle-shaped cells block small blood vessels, less blood can reach that part of the body!. Tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged and patient may die!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
