Answers:
Generic drugs contain the same active ingredient as the branded one!. However, the inactive binder may differ!. While most generics are equivalent in efficacy to the brand one, uncommonly the binder may affect the digestion or absorption of the medicine, resulting in a somewhat different effect!. There may be several different manufacturers of generic drugs!. Thus, sometimes patients complain that one generic doesn't seem to work as well or might feel different than the brand!. This can also happen if a pharmacy changes their generic drug supplier!.

The major advantage to generics is that they are usually much cheaper, sometimes costing 1/5 of the brand (or less)!. A quick check on the prices on drugstore!.com of Synthroid vs!. generic levothyroxine (100 mg, 100 pills) shows a price difference of $83 vs!. $29 - a savings of 65%! While you might not pay the full amount if you have insurance, most insurance companies charge a different deductible amount for generics vs!. brand!.

It is difficult to predict if the generic will affect you differently than the brand!. You might try taking the generic for a few weeks before you decide!. If you notice any unusual symptoms, or feel that the generic isn't working as well as the brand, then you can ask you doctor to prescribe the brand name!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I take Armour thyroid, which is the natural alternative of Synthroid or Levoxyl, the generic of these two is levothyroxine!. I didn't see any difference from one to the other!. I was just more comfortable getting away from the synthetics and using an animal derivativeWww@Answer-Health@Com
